21941/703 = 31. 2. I believe this is at the lower desired value for this. What can be done to improve this? Also is the carbon problem the only issue associated with low numbers?

Inquiring minds want to know.

There is more to this, It's not just a "Cut and dried " answer to your question.

I'll be back soon with your answers, Maybe there might be a few of you that might be interested in a chat sesson. Let me know.

6,284 mi. /161hrs = 39 This reflects an uncommon one way 1,800 mi. trip home from Calif. where I purchased my truck, so 39 is on it's way down.

The factors that influence the result of our calculations in this thread are obviously idle time (zero accelerator pedal input) and road speed.

Your ability to reduce the former and increase the latter may be largely beyond your control due to city driving, lower speed limits, traffic control signals, heavy traffic, or other factors.

It goes against our instincts, at least for some of us older men, to frequently accelerate hard wasting fuel and increasing rear tire wear but those of us who have owned these Rams w/Cummins engines for years know that we can't harm them with a heavy foot. It might reduce the tendency of your engine to soot up the EGT and turbo by accelerating very hard from stop to speed limit occasionally. Anything you can do to work the engine harder might reduce soot buildup. Driving in a lower gear might also help somewhat but won't change the calculation we're talking about here.

My comments are just my opinion, they're worth what you paid.

I know this a the 3rd gen forum but you got my curiosity going, didn't work on my 2n gen, is there any way to check hours on a 2nd gen for any of you previous 2nd gen owners? thanks

I have a 2nd Gen and have Cummins Insight software you load on a Treo to read info on the ECM. It'll read max RPM, avg RPM and idle time I believe. I haven't had it out in years, but mught have to give it a try. I have OBD II diagnostics reader/code resetter and can see if it will pull up engine hours.
