I need to idle my truck in 80 degree weather with the air conditioning running for 5 hours, will this harm my 2018 3500 truck

Cummins recommends no excessive idle time, however, I wouldn't think twice about it. I probably idle more than most on TDR as I do a lot of dump trailer work. I need to keep the batteries charged. Because of this, I will probably change my oil @ 12k rather than 15k.

Think about it...all the vehicles that are idling in the Phoenix summers. Ambulance, firetrucks, buses, wreckers, industrial equipment, personal vehicles, any commercial vehicle running a PTO ....the list goes on.

Would not really hesitate you said you need to do it, so I would do it. Utilities do it as needed when needed. Can do a manual regen after if folks think that's necessary.

No mfg is going to say go ahead and there are always negatives but gotta do what you have to do.

Bump the idle up to 1100 and go for it, shouldn’t be an issue.

Overall Cummins states more than 10 minutes of idle per hour of operation is excessive, but the real danger is wet stacking on a cold motor. Putting the rpms at 1100 will alleviate that issue on a hot day.

Make sure to keep track of engine hours when tracking your oil changes. You will want to use the lesser of 15K miles or 500 hours for when you are due an oil change. (PS warranty requires no more than 6 months on the OIL change).

Guys who haul RV Trailers for a living and sleep in their trucks idle them all night. I just watched a you tube video of a guy who claimed to have close to 500K miles on a truck he bought used.
