Gents,
If I remote start my 2013 CTD with the block heater plugged in, will I damage anything? Obviously the truck will be running for a few minutes until I get out and unplug it and drive away.
Thanks!
Trent

I never thought there would be any damage in doing that? I do run my block heater from a GFCI socket and I've remote started the vehicle with the engine heater plugged in (on a timer). What is the danger in remote starting with the heater plugged in?

The block heater on the Cummins engine is a Immersion type. That is the heating coil is in the coolant of the block. Absolutely no damage can come to your truck or engine if the engine is running with the heater operating. As mentioned before just make sure to unplug before you drive away. A few of us have had that bright orange snake chase us down the road.

Yeah, I make sure to loop the snake around my driver mirror and over my driver door to remind me to take it off. I feel much better about my starting practices now.

NO. I do it all the time. Just remember to unplug before you drive away.

As much as I hate to admit it I have done this more than once!#@$%! I have it plugged into a heavy duty time and one day I came home to find the timer and cord neatly coiled up and on our front porch. someone in our neighborhood must have saw me drive away with it dragging behind my truck and was kind enough to return it to our house! I still have no idea where it came off and who was the good Samaritan that returned it! I have not done that again!
