I pulled mine out this weekend expecting to drill out the rivets and remove the brackets... not today.

On my 99, the center seat brackets are welded to the driver and passenger seat frames. It's still not a big deal if you want to put a console in but you need a few more tools other than a drill.

I found a couple of decent center consoles at the following sites:

I've been thinking of removing mine to open up the cab space a little, but then I won't have an armrest anymore. I would like some air ride seats, but I can't do that because the seatbelts are part of the seat.

Jeff - I used to work for a truck seat (air-ride) manufacturer. They are developing an ABTS (all belts to seat) or seat integrated seat belt. It will be availabe, but to buy it aftermarket will probably be a little costly.

Plus, I think you may have a height issue, the seat might bounce your head into the headliner. Ask around, you may be able to find a low profile air ride seat.

JyRo, thanks for the info. I'm only 5'7" so the height is probably not an issue. The headrest will probably hit the roof before my head will. I will keep an eye out for those seats and low profile mounts.

I have removed my center seat and replaced it with a console. It bolted right to the four brackets that were left. I have two pictures of my installation. Anyone want to see them, e-mail me and I will attach the pictures to a return e-mail.

On my 97, I took out the center console, made a bracket that bolted on the 2 driver side brackets and got a folding armrest out of a Dodge minivan at the junkyard made out of the same seat material. It's been working pretty good for 200,000 miles.

i just finished my new console project. It is made of . 100 and . 080 aluminum and sprayed with Armorthane to match the agate leather interior. It has two storage areas and a panel with GPS and EGT gauge inset. Also two USEFUL cupholders. I need some grey colored sheepskin to pad the top lid for use as an armrest. If anyone is interested I will email some photos on request.
