What muffler would you run? I may have to put a muffler back on the truck to pass this new smog check thing they have in Vegas now. Still checking on that part but if it turns out they won't pass me w/out a muffler I want to be ready and know what to buy.

I don't care about noise, I just want to make sure I only have to add the absolute minimal amount of restriction possible (with a muffler).

Thanks in advance!

I put a Nelson resonator on mine to satisfy wandering eyes and to try and eliminate the drone. It is 5" in and out, 9" dia body x 18" long, basically a perforated tube through a large body. Paid about $60, lowered the overall sound about 1 db @ 8ft. The biggest change I saw was it reduced the 175-180Hz frequency by 2db but didn't do anything for the nasty 125Hz drone.

You don't say that I see if you have a basically stock system without muffler or if you have an aftermarket system. If you are still stock, you can gut the original muffler and put it back on. It is cheap and low restriction. Of course, it won't help you if you have an aftermarket system with larger pipes.

In my sig I say "what muffler". Everything else is still the OEM stuff (including the resonator). As of right now I don't have any EGT issues and because of Joe Donnelly's article I lost interest in potentially going to 4" because the way I read it, it wouldn't really do me any good at around the 250 rwhp I'm making. Now, when the stock system goes bad and starts falling apart I'd go 4" (why not) but to just junk the OEM stuff prolly doesn't make good dollars and cents for me right now.

Also, what about the downpipe issue? I've been reading a few of the recent posts but I'm still a little fuzzy about having to get rid of the stock downpipe for any 4" benefit.....

Isn't a resonator considered a muffler? I would think a turbo and a resonator would pass about any inspection! If they REALLY ARE that picky and require a muffler, it would be hard to make them any happier than to see a stock muffler under your rig... even if it IS hollow.
