I'd be curious why they opted for studded tire (a permanent fixture) vs. an automatic chain system (e. g. , Insta-Chain

One would assume they won't de-stud the tires during the non-snow months. See's like a rather large reoccurring expense.

They will purchase another set of tires for summer use, I'm sure.

In this state (Maine) fire trucks last forever, we don't wear them out. Those tires (both the winter and summer sets) will rot before they ever get worn down..... :-laf

If that fire truck accumulates 20,000 miles in 20 years I will be extremely surprised.

Am starting to see some use of the truck mounted chains up here, mostly on 1 and 2 ton ambulance/rescue chassis's and home heating oil delivery trucks so far.

Also have seen a lot more automatic air operated chock blocks on the oil trucks that apply when the maxi/park brake is set. Too many drivers were running over or leaving behind the regular chocks... ... ... . :-laf

Not many fires at all.

Most mileage accumulates from parades and equipment exercise from what I see.

Plus we have small population for a lot of acreage.

Close your pie hole L8N nobody asked you:-laf
George thats about what I would expect from someone of your mechanical (or lack of) ability. It's pretty sad that an "engineer" would have to ask their Captain how to run something on "their" Truck. Not to mention, you have never worked on one of your personal trucks since you have owned them and have to beg and plead to have a "friend" come over and change your fuel filter for you because you are unable to or don't know how.
