... raise your hand!

I like the new truck. It's so comfortable and easy (almost TOO easy) to drive, it's got satellite radio, power everything, and even a a nice big comfy back seat too! It's got 45 more hp. The new truck loafs along at 1600 or so at 75MPH while the old one was turning 2400RPMs at that speed. It's got 2K flawless, trouble free miles on it. Looks like I lucked out and got two good trucks in a row.

The old truck was flawless for 38K miles. . never a CEL or issue. Everything, including the clutch, was just as tight at 38K as it was the first time I drove it with 7 miles on the odometer. Barely broken in. I miss that 6-speed manual and the EB working almost down to idle speed. I could almost stop at traffic lights without even using the service brakes (really pi$$ed off a few soccer moms behind me in a hurry to get to the mall in their Tahoes a few times). I miss the simplicity of the interior and the bulletproof feel of the old truck. The new one has so many electronic bells and whistles and the 68RFE shifts the gears for me (probably better than I could shift them myself). But I really miss that stick and the control it gave me over the truck.

If not for my damn back problems and two growing kids I'd still have that blue truck. It was my first CTD-- really loved that thing.

Yep, the new trucks are great, but once the novelty wears off of owning your shiny new 4 Gen, don't be surprised--you may be like me and have days where you miss your old 3 Gen steed.

I don't miss mine... . because I still have them:)

Fresh out of high school "1969" custom ordered a 1970 model F100 4x2, finally gave it to my oldest son last year.

1977, bought a 1974 1ton c&c, still have it only it has a Cummins now.

1980, bought a 1975 F250 4x4, still have it.

1991, bought a new 91. 5 D250, still have it.

2003. bought a '01 2500, still have it and is my currant daily driver.

These were all my personal vehicles, the family vehicles all got traded off with the new.

I still have all of mine too... :-laf I just can't seem to let em go!!!

Even the 93 2wd I put 200k on is still helping the 92 out with all the hard to find parts :D

I miss my first 93, but I don't miss the last one. In two years I put 4000 miles on it. Most of that was driving it home from Denver. The rest of the 2 years it sank into my asphalt driveway and sucked in all of my money.

The only thing I miss about my 95 is the 18 mpg around town driving I used to get. My 08 rides nicer and is a quad cab ( for my grandson to have a place to ride) but it only gets 15 mpg and at 3. 29 a gal. it sure doesn't take long to burn up a whole lot of cash. Also don't like the dpf, but haven't had any trouble with it so far. Oh, and my nephew bought my 95 and loves it. Sometimes think I would have been better off to have bought a gasser.

I've had a '91 and a '99 CTD. The 91 my neighbor bought and is still running, 24mpg. Sure miss that. Traded the 04 Dakota in for the new 2010 CTD. I sure will NOT miss the Dakota!

But I do miss the 24mpg of the 91 CTD. Other than that, the 2010 is a great truck.

I have a 2001. 5 and just had someone yesterday say my truck looked very nice and ask if my truck was a couple years old and when did I buy it. The person said it looked new. I said I take care of my truck as I hope to keep it for a vintage vehicle. I've had the usual repair/replacements and at first was bothered by them, but I have accepted the fact that it was a truck and required work. I now enjoy doing some of the repairs as I get into and under the truck and look for problems that need attention before trouble rears it's ugly head and cost me more dollars. After all it's paid for and being a long bed truck it serves my needs to a TEE!. I don't need, nor do I want monthly payments. I planned this truck purchase before I retired, to last for a long time and I got lucky and bought a Cummins!Oo.

See - now you got me thinking..... I am close to pulling the trigger on a new truck. I decided it'd be an auto becuase of the new transmission (and the fact that I'm having shoulder surgery - and backing the 5th wheel camper up my (uphill) driveway would be easier - oh, and my wife could drive it.....

But I do recall owning an auto and not being able to wait until I got back into the manuals. Arg - what to do... . what to do... ...

I actually went and drove a 2011 Ford 350, 2011 Chevy 3500 and 2011 Dodge 3500 - all auto duallys. The Ford was the quickest - but I didn't care for the numb steering feel or the fact that you can't get a stick and you can't manually engage the exhaust brake. The chevy was nice, but I didn't care for the seats, the entire dash and it just felt the most sluggish. The Dodge (has a Cummins - obviously) and drove great - I felt right at home - and thought the inside was very nicely done... but I don't care for the poor fuel mileage, and lower tow capacities of the comparable trucks.

Am I the only one who refers to my truck as "she"?

Funny you should ask because. . The new ones are sure nice and I'd kill to have some of the features found on the new trucks but I'm sorta emotionally attached to my 98. 5. 'She' was a virgin when I got her and we've been through so much together. She never complained when I asked her to do things she... clearly wasn't intended for. For example, try to make it up this road BEFORE it was plowed! I think someone above gave me a little push to help get out of this one! I figured for sure I'd be calling in a huge favor from a local farmer.

Best of all, I forgot how many years she's been paid for!!

Yeah, it's wonderful not having a payment! It's amazing what you can accomplish when you set a goal and do what is necessary to reach it. Hence the creation of my signature. It describes this very subject quite well.

Anway, rust is becoming a problem as shown in the link below. As for maintenance related items, I'm definitely noticing her age. I can see a new VP44 in the future. A/C condensor in the dash sprung a leak this past fall. The valves are soon due for a second adjustment, the radiator isn't holding summer temps like it used to, Kore Chase suspension was never all that great from day one and degrading ever since. Fourth track bar will go on Thursday night before a front end alignment on Friday. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the steering pump will fail. . etc... etc. . Amazingly the 'Mass Diesel' built transmission is still holding up well. Go figure, I thought that was the first to fail on these trucks!

I guess you could say I'm torn between emotional attachment of my first NEW truck and "Boy I'm tired of sourcing parts and working weekends in the garage replacing stuff. " That might be the best way to sum it up.

If you look at my sig, I was in a similar situation. The major difference is the truck never really drove. It just sank into my asphalt driveway absorbing money in the form of very hard to find parts.
