Hi guys,
I only read the first few posts of the now-removed thread with a similar name before it went away, and I am very hesitant to post about transmission subjects in general, but I do feel it necessary to pass along to the group my only aftermarket 48re experience in light of the recent discussion. I hope this changes the tone a bit as mine was an incredibly positive experience, with Goerend Transmission.
I had a very weird stock transmission problem several months back, and decided to use the failure as my opportunity to upgrade. I decided to bite the financial bullet (and follow all the experienced recommendations here at TDR!) and do the key billets- flex plate, input, intermediate, output (I already had their triple-disc converter and valve body). I again chose Goerend after lots of research, and was prepared for the great customer service, willingness to explain details to the customer, and their desire to make sure I got the components which were right for me. I live far, far away from IA, so I chose a local installer (unfortunately chosen for convenience and immediate availability instead of using my booked-up, preferred shop). When said local installer finished up the job, there was some sort of problem which he claimed was a bad TC. 99% chance he didn't get the nose of the TC through the more-tightly machined hole in the billet flex plate, so I get him on the phone with Dave G to discuss how the install was done. To my complete surprise, when the installer started off the conversation by bragging about his years of experience, Dave didn't offer the smallest argument. Instead, he overnighted me a new TC and a new billet flex plate (in case the latter had been damaged in any way) at no charge to me or the installer. Wow. All he cared about was getting my truck done right and back on the road. Guys, this kind of customer focus is so rare I can't stop talking about it.
Again, I only wanted to post this to make sure everybody knows about this option for built automatics if you're looking for one, and do not mean in any way to downplay any other builders, as I have zero experience with anyone else. I hope this post is helpful to other newbies like me who need simple recommendations for reliable upgrades.
