Hi guys,

I only read the first few posts of the now-removed thread with a similar name before it went away, and I am very hesitant to post about transmission subjects in general, but I do feel it necessary to pass along to the group my only aftermarket 48re experience in light of the recent discussion. I hope this changes the tone a bit as mine was an incredibly positive experience, with Goerend Transmission.

I had a very weird stock transmission problem several months back, and decided to use the failure as my opportunity to upgrade. I decided to bite the financial bullet (and follow all the experienced recommendations here at TDR!) and do the key billets- flex plate, input, intermediate, output (I already had their triple-disc converter and valve body). I again chose Goerend after lots of research, and was prepared for the great customer service, willingness to explain details to the customer, and their desire to make sure I got the components which were right for me. I live far, far away from IA, so I chose a local installer (unfortunately chosen for convenience and immediate availability instead of using my booked-up, preferred shop). When said local installer finished up the job, there was some sort of problem which he claimed was a bad TC. 99% chance he didn't get the nose of the TC through the more-tightly machined hole in the billet flex plate, so I get him on the phone with Dave G to discuss how the install was done. To my complete surprise, when the installer started off the conversation by bragging about his years of experience, Dave didn't offer the smallest argument. Instead, he overnighted me a new TC and a new billet flex plate (in case the latter had been damaged in any way) at no charge to me or the installer. Wow. All he cared about was getting my truck done right and back on the road. Guys, this kind of customer focus is so rare I can't stop talking about it.

Again, I only wanted to post this to make sure everybody knows about this option for built automatics if you're looking for one, and do not mean in any way to downplay any other builders, as I have zero experience with anyone else. I hope this post is helpful to other newbies like me who need simple recommendations for reliable upgrades.

Thanks for sharing you experience. . Sounds like a good one for sure. If you don't mind, clue us in on your rig. Ie. . what year, power goodies etc. . I am in the market for a new transmission very soon and for the most part have been only thinking DTT. We also have an excellent installer for their products local so that has helped my persuasion. thanks,

Ken

I agree. Goerend Bros is the best company I have delt with on automatic transmissions, or anything else for that matter. They have treated me excellent also. I am very happy with the units I have received from his so far. Customer service is top notch also.

Well I guess if you get them to call you back all is good and well. I was all set to have trans install by them with all the good reports. After two phone calls one with a live person and no return call I figured what happens if I need customer service? Just my . 02 cents

I have to agree with ColemanR on this one. I was also ready to go with a Goerend transmission after reading all the good reviews. I called three times and got a live body one of the three times, left messages the other two times. Waited three weeks and never got a return call. I couldn't wait any longer because the truck wouldn't go anymore when the trailer was hooked behind it. So called DTT and the rest is history.

I recently had my transmission done by Brown's Diesel in Riverdale, CA (one of Goerend's dealers). I was very pleased with the outcome. I was also impressed that Dave contacted Brown's to make sure the installation was going well, as well as after the test drive to make sure everything worked as it was supposed to. Now that's a man who cares about his customers. :)

Brown's rebuilt my transmission with Goerend parts. I found Brown's from a link of dealers on Goerend's web site. From what he said, he went to Goerend for training to learn how Dave rebuilds his trannies. Although he mostly follows Daves setups, he does have a few beliefs of his own. Turn around time was pretty quick. I drove into the shop at 7:00 am, and drove out at about 2:30. It was really cool to hang out and watch and learn about the whole procedure. Because my transmission wasn't fully toast, we were able to get away with replacing only a couple 2nd gear clutches and plates as well as the band (sorry, I'm not really that knowledgable about transmissions).
