I've been having a problem with my fuel cutoff solenoid RELAY for a few months now... o. k. maybe several months. The truck would take spells where it either wouldn't pull up at all or it hit after three or four bumps from the keyswitch.
I put a new fuel filter on the other day and there lay the relay in front of me.
I was at work (cat dealership) and had a can of Caterpillar brand electronic contact cleaner. I took the relay loose, pryed one side of the relays casing just a bit with a small screwdriver and hosed it down with cleaner. I took the screwdriver out, shook the relay around with the magic juice inside it for about 30 seconds and then dumped the stuff out. I did that three more time, and shot the harness connector down with the cleaner.
I haven't had a problem for a week now. No more looking like a dumbass at the drivethrough window anymore!
If any of you have a problem like this and can rule out the starter solenoid contacts, you might try hosing out the relay with some of this cleaner.
