My ignition/key cylinder is giving intermittent issues turning the key and I almost got stranded yesterday. I had this issue years ago on another truck and I'm trying to remember the "fix" but if I recall I was able to pull the cylinder, take it to a dealer, then they set new pins in it. Anyone know the process these days? Approaching 309k guess it's their time. 98 Ram 2500

I see no need to replace the whole unit, my question was is the fix the same as it was years ago but I've already confirmed with a dodge dealer that I can take the cylinder in and get new pins and have it set. Funny thing is they said if they had to remove it (the cylinder) they would charge a "diagnostic fee "...

I would not waste my money replacing tumblers in an old worn cylinder.

Just a thought. Do you guy's think shooting some graphite lube in the cylinder once in a while would help solve this upcoming problem from even happening ?.
