Merry Christmas fellas



ignition switch piled up last night. Got the new switch, will install tonight. Have changed one on a chebby, not sure where it is located on a dodge. Has anyone changed one on the first gens before? Is the switch located in the column, or on the firewall? The truck has no tilt and is a five speed. Any instruction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again and happy holidays!

My 89 had rods that went down the column to a switch behind the dash from the lock cylinder. You could see the rods as you turned the key right at the dash.



This 93 is all electrical in the column. So for the 91 I would assume its in the column too.

Security bits

You will need a torx driver with the hole in the middle to get the cover off the column. Two screws hold it together and a third one goes in the bottom to secure it to the column.

There are then three security torx that fasten the swith to the column. One very long plug on bottom of switch and a short plug on the side.

I just replaced mine last Monday. Froze up and left me stranded.

AAA does not have good luck finding locksmiths on a Sunday night in the middle of Nowhere GA.

got the lock barrel changed, thanks for the info guys. Can't say enough how this forum has saved me alot of headaches! BUT it is still kind of hit and miss when starting the truck. The switch was okay, but a piece was broke out of the lock barrel and jammed in the switch. Changed the barrel, and it seemed okay at the time. Now it is finicky when starting. The key turns ahead in the start position as it should and the spring in the switch returns the key back again as it should, but sometimes not engaging the starter. Maybe the contacts are worn in the switch? Another thought I had was the plunger switch on the clutch pedal. Do these have adjustment on them, do they wear out? thanks guys, I have to get to the bottom of this being it is the holidays and the temps have dropped here lately

The clutch switches can wear out. I found on my 89 it started to act up in the cold. I would have to pump the pedal to the floor hard to get the starter to engage. Replaced it, but can't remember the cost as it was about 6 years ago... LOL...
