When I turn the ignition I hear a click and the truck does not start. I do this three or four times and then the truck starts okay. I've been told that my ignition switch is going bad, is this the most likely cause?

Clean all battery cable lugs/ posts

even the one on the starter clean every thing up real nice

then if it still gives you trouble

get a starter relay it under the hood in the box behind the battery on the driver side

I had the same problem. I replaced the starter contacts and plunger with the kit from Larry B. No more problem. Geno`s carries the kit but was out when I tried to order it so I got it direct from Larry B.

You might want to fill out your signature so we have some Info on your truck and can better help you out.

Odds are it's your starter contacts, as mentioned above. Not a big deal, just get the kit (Genos is a good source). Pull the starter, change the contacts and away you go. Even if this isn't your problem right now (I'll be it is), it will be one day so may as well change em.

I was gonna say welcome to the TDR but I see you joined back it 2000, so welcome to the boards :)

Had the same problem; got the kit provided by Larry Buck and did the replacement yesterday. No more click, click. Was an easy job, took less than 3 hours, and well worth it. I got the kit through Geno's.

Thanks everyone for your help! How do I update my profile?

Go under the "Discussion Forums" tab at the top of the page and scroll down to "User Control Panel" it is under there. Pretty easy once you find it.

Also +1 for Larry B's contacts and plunger, fixed mine last year and no problems since. took about 1. 5 hours for me.

Just another angle on this. I have a 77 chevy that was doing the same thing and it turned out to be a bad nuetral safety switch.

There was a ignition switch recall on my '95 a few years back. Don't know if it applies to your truck because I have no idea what year truck or model you have.

my truck was doing the same thing we cleaned everything up with sand paper and a wire brush sprayed some eezox that i use for my guns on everything

put in a new relay as well it fixed it

keep some $$$ in my pocket:-laf

180k never messed with the starter other than to clean the cables ends
