I have a 1995 3/4 Ton Cummins. Does anyone know what the bells mean when you first turn on the ignition? Most of the time I get 5 bells but every once in a while I'll get 2 or 3 bells. What do these mean. My manual tells me how to check engine codes with the "Engine check Light" but I can't find any explanations on the bells.

Some questions 4U .....

As far as you know, are these individual chimes' sources working as expected under normal circumstances?

Have you or anyone else disabled/modified either the chimes' sources or outputs, either inadvertently or on purpose?

Has this come about gradually, or all at once and was it coincedental with any other work done (or not done!) on your truck? Finally, do you have access to the factory service manual?

Check Gauges" chimes still work, though.

Was that a "real" fault or did you spoof it to make the chime work for a sound check Bill? Last time it happened to me was for real, when my Engine's oil pressure sender went T*TS-UP at 39,020 miles from brand new :{ in the middle of nowhere, a long way from home and my boony box.

No, it's a "real" fault- my OP sender's a POS, also. The chime that sounds @ start-up began to work intermittently about a year ago & a month or so ago it quit entirely. No connection to any work done by me & it doesn't go anywhere near a dealership.

Yes, I do have the FSM- haven't gotten around to tracking the problem- I suspect its either in the CTM or the PCM. :(
