II's ps 62 and 64 Brett tell us about them!

There is a good thread about the sps66 and it seems to be a little big for the ISB in a street since. I see allot of posts that make me belive it is better suited to the bigger power band of the common rail engines. So what about the smaller 62 and 64 I feel like there has to be some people out there that have enough time to desribe the personallitys of each. So lets hear it brett, others

also I get that these chargers are capable of some high boost numbers.
so my ? is will it kill it to limit it so HG safe numbers or would one need to stud and oring and "let the big dog eat" so to speak.

I've got a 12V that is getting a 64 this week so I'll have some data in the near future as he's going from a 35/12 at 40 psi and 1500 degrees.

Jim

I just changed a 12 valve from a SPS 66 to a PS 62 (12 exhaust housing) and it works much better for daily driving but the EGT is still over 1500, it makes about 47 lbs WFO. This truck is supposed to be around 400hp but I couldn't get it over 360 with the 66 on it. I will take it back to the dyno when time lets me and see how it does and tune from there.

I feel like a 12v is the quickest power band then the isb is quicker and the CR is just quick so were talking apples in oranges trying to compare what spools well on a 12v and what spools well on a isb.

Has no one goten there ps62 in yet, Is the turnaround bad? awaiting the report on the cusp of ordering one!

I ordered one and got it in 2 days, great people to work with.

Got a 64 going on a ISB within the next couple of weeks. He has to contend with the head gasket first. As soon I know anything I will reply again.

Ive got the 66 on my 24 valve. 150 EDMs, TST Comp, stock bolts and head gasket (fingers crossed) and i drive mine as a daily driver. The lag is just a little slow but it doesnt bother me any. With the TST on 3 or 4 it drives great with little or no smoke at take off. On 9 when its spooled there is NO smoke.

I to would like to hear more on the 62 and 64 to see how they compair.

But im not trading mine off. Just need to go bigger

Thats a really good question... .

What are the trade-offs of going with a SPS-62 vs. a SPS-66,

or a SPS-64 vs. a SPS-66?

If there's someone that could graph the differences and post the graph, it will make it easier for us folk to understand... . Thanks.

I just got my II 64 on. I'll post an update as soon as I have some more drive time. So far it seems great.

About time you found this thread... ... ..... lol. Sometime this this week shoot me a call, but first post on how that turbo runs. Oh ya, no I don't have the direct number you are looking for right now. I will find it when I get back home. Later Jim.

Great post! Inquiring minds want to know. One of these days, I want to upgrade my stock turbo. I don't have tons of fuel on the bottom end, but can dump it on the top. I need something that will spool quickly, but move some air through for good EGT's on the top. Any info on the 62 and 64 is much appreciated.

The 64 seems to work just fine on a 12V that was running a 35/12 with a fair amount of fuel. Said the turbo spools a little slower, about like it did before the plate and springs..... data to still come.

Jim

I have an ISB-HPCR, it is common knowledge that the same turbo that outshines the others on a 12 valve, doesn't outshine other turbos on a 24 valve or an ISB-HPCR. Please post whether you have a 12 valve or a 24 valve. Thanks.

I don't see where anybody has not said, what they are going on. Most of us have a SIG filled out if we are talking about our truck, or if we are talking about another truck we seem to be making reference to what it is... ... . 12v, ISB ETH, ETC, or CR.

But point taken.

Hey I've been busy... (practicing on head gasket changing ;) )I promise as soon as I get a chance to do a retorque I'll stand on it and tell ya what I think. So far I've only had it up to 30 psi. It has a slight surge over 25 psi at 3/4 throttle accellerating Doesn't seem to matter on rpm. Nothing bad though, it just makes a faint surge noise, you can hear it, but you can't feel it. It'll probably be better when it's at wot. More info to come as soon as I have some.

Corey

I think any turbo will bark. It'll bark if I let off at wot, but not too bad, not as bad as the stocker did. So far my impressions... it's hard to tell. I did my last retorque. Stood on it. When that thing lights, hang on. What a power difference between that and the stocker. Before when I hit 2nd gear I'd get a chirp, now it spins til it hits drive. Daily driving smoke isn't bad at all, I think it's better than the stocker taking off from a stop sign ( has less smoke) but it doesn't light as quick if you stand on it from a dead stop. At 45lbs of boost I can get my egt's to a max of 1400 empty. I have to turn up the wastegate, I think that'll help with egt's and then maybe I can run some larger injectors. I have a surge at over 25lbs of boost, if I'm not wot, the boost gauge is pretty erratic. I dunno if it's the turbo or something else (bent intake valve). It doesn't bother me, I just hope nothing is wrong. At WOT I have a bad miss with my box turned on, it didn't do it with the stock turbo (before I changed head gaskets). I dunno why it's doing that, but I'm sure it isn't turbo related, Maybe I didn't get an injector line tight when I did the head gasket, pretty sure I did though. I have to check that out as it's pretty bad. Also could be that I'm not getting enough fuel to the vp? I also have to make it shift into OD faster, with this turbo it holds drive too long, but that shouldn't be too hard. Other than that I like it. When SpicyJam gets his 66 I'll have to go for a ride, I wanted a 66, but was talked into trying a 64 because of surging issues. This turbo has absolutely no surging in the 1800-2000rpm range like the 66 supposably has. I'd like to try a 66 to see how bad the surge really is, but $1650 for a test is too much $$. Brett want to loan one out? Jim want me to break yours in for you? I promise I'll be nice to it . ;) Once I pull a trailer I'll post an update as to how the egt's are.

Corey

I have a sledpuller 66 on a 24v, and its great for racing. The only thing is if you have a auto its alittle slow spooling up. But once it hit's ... ... HOLD ON!
