The "Ford Experience"

Pretty cool looking bike, I like the camo one. Wonder what kind of a price tag we'll see when or if it's offered to the public. :D

It's an interesting bike, but to call it a "high performance enduro bike" is a big stretch to say the least. The KLR is a cheap dual sport that gives you good value for your $ but the 1980's designed chassis and suspension is so far from state-of-the art it isn't funny. I spent some time on one in Baha and can tell you that the KLR is ancient technology compared to say a Honda XR650R or KTM620. Even an older Honda XR650L has much more potential.

I just don't know why they'd spend all the time and money on motor development for a KLR when it was old school 15 years ago?

i still kinda dream of a turbo'd V twin diesel cruser type bike, in the 1200cc range... if someone would make the engine, that would be cool... with the exhaust exiting in the V and having the charger sitting right there, and the intakes out the sides, with a charger with 2 exits on the compressor side and direct piping of the charge air into the intakes on the heads. no intercooler but at like 10psi boost, it wouldn't be needed...

one can dream... . :)

I think the KLR was easiest to make into a diesel and the military already uses the KLR. I used to own one back in '93 or so and they are pretty soft on the suspension side for real dirt use but the military uses better suspension parts I think, especially the F1 shock. It's way sportier than anything else that was proposed by a long shot. I kinda like it.

That would make some sense if they already stockpile parts for KLR's. I noticed that they use a better shock (thank god), but the forks suck really badly and the chassis flexes too much. In all fairness, they are a good budget dual sport, expecially if your off-road use is limited to gravel roads; I just took exception to the "high performance enduro bike" label they used. It isn't an enduro bike at all (unlike my CRF250X), and it is probably the least off road capable dual sport that I can think of. I'm willing to bet a case of beer that I could beat Ty Davis around a national enduro course if he had to ride a diesel KLR! :D

Anyway, sorry if I offended.

No worries. I think the military just kinda needs a two-wheeled pack mule and one that get 90 plus a gallon and still be reasonably strong is a plus. Maybe they meant it was high performance compared to any diesel bike before since there have been some real sad cases before! :-laf
