ill transmission

the transmission in my truck finally took a dump. it pops out of fifth gear when i let off and the push the accelerator again. it will also pop out of second gear when im just rolling through a parking lot. what does it cost to put a new transmission in one of these. 1990 4x4 with a five speed.

I'd first remove your getrag and pull the top cover. This way you might be able to inspect and see what went wrong. Could be a loose worn or damaged shift rail/fork. Might be able to fix it cheap, and keep it rolling while you save up for the nv4500=$3000. www.quad4x4.com. Bill

Had a complete rebuilt done for $1250 - transmission shop used parts from Standard Transmissions http://www.standardtransmission.com/. I had waited too long could have been about $400 less.
