Ive been gone for close to a year. 1983/1991 Crewcab duallie project has been on hold, and I am finally in a position to get back to work on it. I have become a "trader" however, I picked up a P-pump to add to my early 91 motor, and I am going with a ported and O-ringed late-model head, hx-35, an ATS manifold, 375 Injectors, and a PDR cam. I know its blasphemy in a first gen, but at least its still a Cummins :D. I previously purchased a 46 RH with a DTT Converter and Valvebody, so I was half way there anyway. Anyway, let the bombing continue! I do have a question however, how many RPM's are the early 1st gen bottom ends good for? I have heard they actually have better Rods and Cranks than the later ones, is ths true? I am gong to call Al or Piers tomorrow, but am looking for other opinions anyway. Would Marine pistons be worth it ? I will be cleaning house soon and will have some first gen parts to sell including the pump, all lines ect... I will post them in the classifieds or e-mail me with any needs. Peace Murfman

Hey Murf',

Welcome home,,,,

As I understand it the bottom end is a bit heavier, but I do not have first hand knowledge of this, only overheard comment at PDR.

Nascar Mark has had his truck up to 3600 I believe. He did 308 RWHP too. Darn wildman... ... ... ;)

Piers mentioned that he doesn't like to go over about 3300 with stock springs. After that the 60 pounders should be put in or it could 'float' on ya.

Sounds like your "hybrid 1st Gen" will be nice and trick. It should be fun to see how it turns out... . of course, you simply can't run it as a 1st Gen after that..... maybe we need a new catagory... . hmmmm "Genetically modified 1 1/2 Gen" ya... ... . that's it... now, were did I put my medication... ... .....

Bob.
