Traded in My Duramax/Allison yesterday, with only 16500 miles on it. Got me a 03 Dodge CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL, 4x4, quad, SO, 5 speed, SLT, silver, it feels so good to be back in a truck again. Ordered some BFG 315/70/17 at a local tire place for $148 each mounted and balanced, and he is gonna buy my stock tires for $70 each. Life is good.

Anybody wanna buy a HOT Edge Juice box for their Dmax? Or how about some correcttrack spacers for the back of the HD, so that the back tires follow in the same tracks as the front? Yep, the back of a GMC HD 4x4 is 3" narrower in the back than the front. They handle a bit weird in the soft stuff without the spacers.

It's good to be back.

Peter,

Its good to have you back. Are you saying the rear differential is narrower than the front axle?

Welcome back! I think there is indeed a big difference between the Dodges and chevys. Is it just me, but the chevys seem to be getting lighter duty, and the Dodges seem to be staying the same or maybe a little heavier duty?

Welcome Back!

All pride aside, did the Chevy let you down in any(or many) ways? I thought the rearend was the same as the 2003 HD Dodges so I wonder if the front of the GM is 3" wider or the rear is 3" slimmer. I love my Dodge and would never consider a GM ( IFS frontend, buyer R&D) but always good to know one's adversary.

Chevy thoughts

The truck never let me down, but I hated the IFS and the Allison. If I tried to do a 4x4 launch it would wheel hop, not sure where, but the whole truck would bounce and the alinement would be off the next day. It would toe in under power and plow the front tires all the way down the strip. I guess the allison would be alright if you left the truck stock. The juice box defueled at every shift to save the poor transmission and it could not hold 5th gear under full power. If you got to spinning the tires it would just fly though the gears, get confused or shift into 5th I'm not sure which, and the tires would stop and transmission would like go into N, and then SLAM back into gear. I'm not an auto transmission guy, I don't why I even bothered to try one.

The motor was great, at the rare times when the transmission didn't down shift and it was still in 4th locked up, it pulled hard. The Isuzu ran real nice and cool too, even in pretty hot weather. I can't really say anything bad about the motor except that it didn't sound like a Cummins. When I was looking to buy a new truck, I also looked for a 6 speed Duramax to test drive, could not find any. I doubt I would have bought one, they are just too low to the ground.

One cool thing about the old truck, both diffs had drain plugs.
