Yes, it's true. The '07. 5 is going goodbye. I've got plenty of capable CTD's to do my towing. It's just too darned expensive to run the kids around getting 15 MPG with diesel at $4. 80/gallon.

My first tank in the Accord was 29 MPG and I paid $3. 87/gallon. So, instead of paying $. 32/mile for fuel I'm paying $. 13/mile. On a typical day I'll run a hundred miles (we're a way's out of town) so that's $19. 00/day or about $100. 00 per week. The Accord cost 20K new, and the CTD was about 40K new. Even if I sell the CTD for 30K I'm still way ahead.

It's a sad day in America. #@$%!

I drive my Accord daily and save the Beast for weekends. It felt good driving it today. The new Revo Smarty program is working well. If you're into the "metrosexual" thing,you can't beat a four banger. :{

..... i recently purchased an '01 Accord LX 5speed... i'm getting 34mpg hand calculated commuting to work... . after towing the 5'er coast to coast this month,it's strange paying 40 bucks for a fill-up!!!!... the car is a pleasent change... cheap to run, and, easy to park in Downtown D. C. ;)tom

True, but at $100. 00/wk savings in fuel the depreciation is paid for on less than two years. That assumes that fuel doesn't go any higher. Also, Accords tend not to depreciate a great deal.

but they do depreciate! My wife has an '06 Accord and loves it. Very good cars!

but you've got the $10k depreciation on the Ram, and you'll probably depreciate $3-5k on the Accord? So it'll take over two years JUST TO BREAK EVEN, and in the end, you're left with a Honda Accord vs. a Cummins, and in the long run, that Cummins is going to depreciate less.

I'm not trying to talk you out of your decision. Hondas are EXCELLENT cars. And yes, fuel will continue to climb at least for a little while. I'm just trying to kinda play a little devil's advocate for others who are considering making a similar move to what you're doing.

I too drive an Accord to work everyday. It's a great commuter car & 30mpg. A friend at work just tripped 300k on his Accord and the only thing he's ever done was change the oil. I think the plugs have only been changed once. I save my Ram for the weekends.

If it's woth it to you to be in a car that is not that safe as in If you were to get PLOWED into, will that extra saving really be worth it?

However I only pay $1. 25 a Gallon anyway, but, even if I payed 10. 00 a Gallon I still would rather drive the CUMMINS:)

Or I could ride my HD that gets 35MPG or more to work, But its a Luxury item, and going to work is not Pleasure, Unless you are a PORN STAR:(

I rented a 2008 Accord 4cyl and drove it from Orlando to Pittsburgh last weekend. I really enjoyed the little thing. The 34 mpg wasn't anything to complain about either. Oo.

If I were in the market for a car right now, I'd have to seriously consider one.

they're great, and they hold their value well. The ONLY thing I would change about my wife's (silver special edition w/ black cloth interior, 4cyl auto) is I'd make it a 4cyl 5sp.

oh, and one of these days I'll rip the interior out of hers and lay down a couple rolls of sound deadener. the road noise in that thing is horrible!

I was drivin my bug for a few days but messed up my knee so stick shift is kinda out right now but Pain and all I may just go back to drivin bug I was Playin with a f150 the other day and he thought twice after I whooped on him comming out of a light I guess you can say he woke up lol

Average your mpg...

You can average over 30 mpg and still keep your CTD, I do. Get a VW TDI and average it to the truck, HA. Over 50 mpg on the highway!

Boy am I glad I bought my Jeep Liberty Diesel. It gets 29 mpg on the hwy and a solid 19 around town. Most of the time it averages 21 in town. And I still get to drive a diesel. I am praying the prices drop down again after the holiday weekend. The thought of paying $5. 20 a gallon for the rest of my life makes me sick to my stomach. Makes everything way more expensive. Went to costco and a big bag of white potatoes is over $8. 39 a bag. unbelievable!!!

240hp in a slug bug?!?!?!

I wanna ride!!! :D :D

Yeah thats my E ticket ride for the streetSmoked Rice is fun so is Pissin off vette driver's they can't believe they got beat by a 4 cyl air cooled car and believe it or not I have been stopped 2 times and both gave me a warning as they were in shock that a 7 fter fit in a bug with room to spare :-laf

Carnival Worker,

Your comments about the safety of some smaller cars may not be quite accurate.

I've been looking at the Honda Civic's & they carry a 5 Star Crash Test rating. I even talked with two groups of firemen. Since they are the ones that have to pull the bodies out of those crashes I figured they would know how safe the Civic's are. Both groups said that they are remarkably safe, today. The Captain of one group said that they have pulled up on wrecks & thought they would have fatalities. Looked into the car & no one was in the car. Then, they noticed the driver walking around in good shape. One fireman said that his girlfriend has a Civic & he's not worried about her safety. The Civic is quite a bit smaller than the Accord.

I will agree that the small cars do look unsafe. That is why I did a bit of research. I was surprised at my findings.

BTW, do you guys know that Honda is bringing a 4 cylinder diesel Accord into the US in 2009? It's rated at 58 mpg's. The car is already in Europe & other parts of the world. It has very good reports. One guy rented one while in Europe & said that it worked great. Good power & economy.

The new Civic is darn near as big as my '98 Accord. Honda has some very solid cars. As far as the upcoming diesel goes, they just announced it would go into the Acura first, then the Honda.

Bajabob,

Boy, I'm sure sorry to hear that news. Sure hope you're wrong. I would consider a diesel Accord.

I looked into a hybrid (Prius,Civic, etc. ) & the diesel Accord gets as good, or better mileage. Much less complicated car, also.

I recently read that there may be problems with electro magnetic waves coming off the electric wiring from the batteries to the motor. The wiring runs right next to the drivers seat. The thinking seems to be that being that close to all that current flowing next to the driver may not be good for your health. Now, I don't know if this is a REAL problem, or not. But, there is some concern about it.

A woman I know is getting 56 mpg. , regularly, with her Prius. Had a high of 57 mpg's. Not bad.

I'm a bit concerned about their belt-driven transmissions. They may be great. I just don't know. The cars are a lot more complicated than regular cars & I wonder if that will have an effect on durability? One of my neighbors is a Honda mechanic. He said that if I buy a hybrid it would be a good idea to have it serviced at the dealership. They are the only ones that understand how they work & know how to fix them.
