I bought my EZ and was happy with the performance but the added rail pressure has always worried me. So I bought a VA 3. 2 to try out. How is everybody else liking them? Plus I can always stack them with the EZ turned down for some more power. I will post my thoughts when I get it put on.

Try PM'ing "Buffalo" he is currently running one in addition to the tone ring mod and seems very pleased with the results.

Buffalo Here!!!

I've had the VA-C3. 2 on since just after Thanksgiving. I like it. Chose that box because I did not want a pressure-only box. Thought about the Edge J/A but, I already had the guages & did not want to duplicate them.

The VA-C3. 2 gives you 3 settings by way of a small toggle switch. Stock, 65 HP & 130 HP. VA told me these are rear-wheel HP ratings. On the high setting, my 40-65 mph runs were 3 seconds quicker than stock. It seemed to really wake the truck up.

On a trip to CA, I got 21. 47 mpg average (hand calculated) & half the trip was driving into a fairly strong head wind. That's the best I've ever done. However, towing (7000+ lbs. ) I didn't do as well. Approximately the same as when stock. I've read that the pressure boxes do help fuel mileage so, stacking your EZ, on the low level will probably be a benefit in your towing mileage, non-towing mileage & overall power. If you do the Tone Ring Mod, EZ & VA-C3. 2, you will have a nice timing, pressure & duration set-up. I've read that "blending" a number of different performance mods is a good way to go. You're not trying to get "everything" out of one mod.

When I called VA about adding the timing mod (tone ring mod), they were quite enthusiastic about that combination. I believe they ALL compliment one another.

Let us know about your experiences with these mods. If you can, do one at a time & document the changes. That way, you know how much "bang for your buck" each one gives.

I've been thinking about stacking an EZ, also.

Good Luck.

When I get it here I plan to run with just th VA for a while to get the newness worn off then I can see about fuel mileage. Then I was thinking tone ring and then the EZ stacked :-laf .

Thanks

I ordered a VA c3. 2 last week and should have it today :p my only other mod so far is a roktech crank sensor. It will be interesting to see if it helps my 05's mileage.

Well I got the 3. 2 and put it on. The gain over the EZ does not feel substatial but it does have more power. EGT's are hot like I figured. From a standing start I can get to 80 MPH before I see 1450'. Just for fun I set the EZ on 1 and stacked them. All I have to say is wow. It was very fun and also very hot. From a standing start I had to ease out at around 60 MPH because of excessive EGT's. However it did have a tendency to leave these two strange black streaks on the pavement in fourth gear. :-laf I am going to try the tone ring mod to see what that does. One thing that did surprise me was the amount of smoke I made with just the VA. Then when I stack them it was lots of smoke until 2200 RPM's then it would clean up and yeehaw

I would say your EGT's would be better at lower elevations. On the halfway setting they aren't bad at all, but at the high level they climb quickly to about 1300-1350 then they sit there and don't get any hotter. I am going to try the tone ring mod to see what it does for me. I'm not sure if it will work because i think I was getting a little timing rattle with the EZ. I will just try it and see.

I run mine stacked with a Quadzilla Race Box and a Roktech crank sensor. Very happy with the driveability. I leave the VA at 50% (65hp) and the Quad at the low level (60 HP if I remember right) for daily driving. I average about 21mpg empty for that. When I want ot have fun I just turn up the boxes and the truck really wakes up. The VA on the top setting will get hot in ahurry, even with ats manifold, bigge turbo and full 4"!!

I found a good hill to test on and found that with the VA on the high setting my EGT's would climb to 1400 in a 0-70 MPH run. With the tone ring mod they dropped to a little under 1300. I have it advanced as far as I can without excessive timing rattle. I would guess it is 3'-4' advanced. So IMO the tone ring mod does compliment the VA 3. 2 nicely :D . However it did very little to help my egts when I stacked the EZ and VA. On the same hill with the boxes stacked I could only get to 60 before my gauge was pegged at 1500', but I could get to that speed fast. If I turn the VA down it works very well with the EZ.

ECappleman,

I've towed with mine, even over a smaller mountain pass in Western AZ. , & didn't notice high EGT's. I was surprised because this box does have a reputation for producing high EGT's.

I have an '03, HO, 3500, 6-sp. 4X4, VA-C3. 2, Magnaflow 4", AFE-PG-7 Intake System, Tone Ring Mod. The Pyro is pre-turbo.

I tow a 7000/8000 lb. trailer with probably over 1000 lbs. in the bed of the truck (115 gal. aux. fuel tank, 30 gals. water, tools & fiberglass shell).

I know Smokey01 & others have experienced higher EGT's, than me, & I think it's because, while towing, I never really "poured the coals" to it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my EGT's were very managable, on the high level, as long as I didn't "floor-it". Kept my speed in the low 60's. The pyro does fluctuate on small hills but, never got much over 1200 deg's. on the mountain pass.

I think that with higher rpm's. & a fueling box, the turbo runs out of its ability to provide enough air. I may be wrong but, that's my guess.

In my "wide-open" tests with the VA-C3. 2, I never got over 1237 deg's. However, I only ran up to 65 mph. , in 5th gear. Probably not enough rpm's & length of time to really heat-soak the pyro.

Do you guys feel that stacking a pressure box, on its low level, is safe for the HPCR & injectors?

Ok help?

How do you do the tone ring mod. I pull all the time and think this would help me out. I currently have 173,000 on her. I have heard alot about the tone ring but no one has said how to do it. Do you think it would help?

Thanks,

Scott

We have sold alot of VA C3. 2 and had very good results. We now include a Rokktech sensor with the purchase of a C3. 2 since they do work well together and help keep the EGT's down.
