Posting Issues

Its easy for me to look at my user control panel and see what "my" threads are doing... either ones I created or ones I posted in. However I've noticed that lately some (but not all) I've subscribed to plus some I've started do not show up there. This is somewhat strange cause many posts can show up in those threads yet from my user control panel its as if they are not active.

I used to get email notification too... but none lately on recently subscribed to posts. Mostly emails come from old ones. My email settings have not changed. Even so that wouldn't explain why my user control panel is not accurate as to whats going on in my suscribed threads.

More rare... but still happening... I get email notifications that a user has posted to a thread I'm suscribed to but when I click the hyperlink and go there... their name nor any post from them shows up. And occasionally I'll get the same email notification twice.

Just curious if I'm doing something wrong or perhaps anyone else sees this occuring. Not a big deal... its just that its hard to remember where I'm active on the site when the user cp isn't updating. Thanks for any help or comments.

Sounds like your machine is loading the pages from a cache. Try holding your shift key and pressing refresh and see if it updates. Have you installed any kind of internet speed up software or are you using an ISP that has something like that? That's exactly the symptoms you'd have if the pages are loading from a cache.

I'll check into that. I'm not much of a computer expert but I can do OK if given some direction to begin. Thanks Steve!

The internet I use here is a T1. So no speed up software needed. I just got DSL at home (1. 57Mb download, 356kb upload). ITs faster than our T1. But this problem has been occuring before the DSL was in (SBC Yahoo DSL).

As far as I know the internet here at work has not changed for a couple years since we got the T1 but I'll have to check with the "I. T. " guy.

After doing as much as I can... I still find no reason why this stuff is occuring. Don't all web pages somehow use the cache files? How do I disable them from loading from cache if this whats happening... and what are the consequences of not loading from a cache? If all it does is speed things up... I can disable it OK because my connections are 1. 5Mbps and higher anyway. It seems to worse now than ever before. I get no notifications and my user control panel isn't updated at all for my subscribed threads. Its hard to come to TDR and remember where I was active and I cannot respond to any threads I'm in or started unless I remember them all... which is impossible.

Guess I'll have to consult a computer expert locally. This is pretty annoying. Guess once you get used to something you really miss it when its gone.

Did you try holding your shift key and hitting refresh on your control panel like I asked? If you did, did anything change? That should load the page from the site and not from your cache. BTW, another thing you can do to see all of the threads you've posted on is to do a search on your username. What has changed on your end? What new software have you installed? Installed a new router, server, changed ISP's, new ISP software, etc? Something has changed, we need to figure out what it is so I can help.

On the notifications, I just checked the logs and they are all being delivered properly. Do you have any anti-spam software at your host (?????construction.com)? Your email notifications are probably being blocked by that.

Steve do you mean "clicking" refresh on my Microsoft Internet Explorer toolbar? I did that and unfortunately it didn't help.

I will look at all the things you mentioned. I'm going to focus on the anti spam software on our server... but I'm not been informed of any. Thanks for your continued help and I know you've done all you can on your end. I'll get it somehow.

It wont stop me however from enjoying TDR. If fact today I just mailed my check in for another years subscription! :)

Sorry... I forgot to mention that I did hold down the shift while clicking on IE toolbar. I was clear on the shift... just not on the tool bar refresh icon. :)
