Another Newbie question

Well, I went and did it. Since my teenage years I have always been intrigued by heavy equipment. Always jumped at the chance to drive or operate something with a diesel engine in it. Still, thirty some odd years later, I still enjoy it just as much. Well about a month ago, I was window shopping on Ebay and found what I thought was a nice looking 1996 Dodge 3500 Extended cab SLT CTD. 111,200 miles, almost perfect leather interior, polished alumiumun wheels, Rear sliding window and sunroof. I thought what the heck, I'll bid 10,000 on it and someone will out bid me and that will be the end of the story. Well the next thing I knew I was having to explain to my wife that I had to fly to Texas from Alabama to get the truck I had bought on Ebay. After about 3 beers and a couple of xanax tablets my wife was finally calm enough that I could explain my passions for wanting such a vehicle. Really, I have the best wife in the whole world as she finally said if that is what I wanted she would go to Texas and get it for me. So I left one Friday morning, picked the truck up at the dealership and drove the 12 hours back home. When my wife got up the next morning all she would say is "That's a damn big truck". I have since put about 3000 miles on the truck without using a drop of oil. I could not be more pleased with it. I have owned a few Chrysler products in the past, but this one has to be the best, after all it is a CTD. I am getting about 18. 5 mpg around here and got right at 20 mpg on the trip back home. It has a couple of dings and small dents in it that are not that noticable and I can live with that. I think it looks good. Some people may think 10000 is alot for a 1996 model but I am pleased with it. Everything works as it is supposed to except the fuel guage. When it is on empty I still have a half a tank. Kind of had me concerned about fuel mileage until I figured it out. Anyway, I just became a paid member of TDR and wanted to share my excitment with everyone. Also, I think this has to be one of the best websites I have ever been to and I am amazed at all the info and willingness to help that I see on this board. I hope if and when the time comes for me to need help that I can come here for info and advice about my (new to me) CTD. Sorry for such a long post, I'm just so excited.

Welcome to the TDR. If it has a 5 speed, I'm EXTREMELY jealous. (913 pump- great BOMBability) Auto, you can keep it. Sounds like you got a good deal. Dont forget to search feature, and see about that fuel gauge sender; though it is better than the 72 Ford I learned to drive on- < 1/4 tank and you were on fumes. I have saved countless years' memberships in not taking it into a shop to chase after bad geese. For some reason, very few people want to work on these Cummins/ Dodge pickups. $10K isnt too much if it is in as good of shape as you say. THese are dependable trucks, to say the least; I wont own anything else.

Welcome and congratulations! I know exactly how you feel. I just bought my first CTD in January and I'm still flying high.

Get ready for information overload! The people and knowledge on this site have to be the best there is anywhere.

Congratulations and welcome aboard. You have done two things right.

1. Bought CTD

2. Joined TDR

Everyone that I have dealt with has been really helpful. 100,000 on a CTD is barely broken in so don't worry. The people that tell you this is allot of miles probably own a Powerstroke or a Duramax..... LOL... ... 6 in a row built to tow!

Better put a lock on the wallet. Now it's going to get expensive (BOMBing bug). :-laf I was able to hold off 'til January of this year (fuel-wise). :D

Welcome and I hope you have many miles of fun with your truck.

I also bought my truck on ebay and my wife and I flew to pick it up. I wasn't sure what she would think about the sound of the 12 valve cummins.

Her response after riding in it a few miles was " That Diesel sounds so cool"
