I am moments away from going to get my muffler removed and straight piped (resonator to remain installed in hopes of cutting down on harmonic resonance drone, which it drones sometimes anyways). Does anyone know if it will have the deep throaty sound like the four inch exhaust, or the same pitch just more pronounced?

Can't help you out on leaving the resonator on. I took mine off. Makes the job easier since a straight 5 foot piece of 3" pipe is all that is needed (the res output is 4" and needs to be reduced to 3").

I'm very happy with mine. In past discussions it doesn't seem that leaving the resonator on helped the incidence of droning. What seems to make more difference is welding the joints versus clamps.

I've not heard a truck running with just the resonator so I don't know what the differences in sound is - just that I'm very happy without it.

Thanks NPS

I am heading down the mountain to have it done right now! Will post my impressions when I get back. I hope I will like it because my better half is already going to be p. o'ed when she finds out I have spent money on that and will be on fire if I have to spend more to have it put back ON!!!!  :D

My truck wasn't even a week old when I straight piped it. I liked the way it sounded but it was a little raspy and kinda harsh when you're WOT. I've since got a 5" exhaust w/o the muffler and I like the deeper note.

Straight piped it is!

Well, it's done! My muffler had a big dent in it, must of flipped a stick under the truck or maybe when I was climbing over some boulders on the trail. The truck is running a little cooler and is sounding "ominous". Definately a very deep voice speaks from under the hood! It sounds like a logging truck. A very LOUD logging truck. Hopefully next week I can order a 4" exhaust from DD (or JRE or BD or. . . ). I want to keep the tone and quicker turbo spool-up but, I hate being afraid to put my foot in it due to the noise police! I haven't heard any resonance in the pipe, but I only climbed back up the mountain. Tomorrow we are. . . oh crap, I just realized tomorrow "we" are going to L. A. and the other part of we will hear the music.

I wonder if I can get away with blamming YOU GUYS! :D

I'm screwed.

where was that dent ?

i think the stock muffler has a clearance dent in it from DC ... newf , you being in cali i would call stan's ... supplier of the JRE system so i'm told . save on shipping from the same coast .

I put a 4" Jardine on last weekend, my stock muffler also had a good sized dent in it, if I recall corectly on the inlet end, near the top side. Gotta love that handle on the OEM muffler, eh?
