Had my first chance to do some fun driving up in the high country here in Northwest Wyoming. I was very impressed by the fact that I was able to drop down the Lovell route from Burgess junction in the Big Horn Range without touching my brakes. The grade is 10% for 14 miles of tight switchbacks. I was able to use my gear selection button with the exhaust brake to accomplish this. I was not towing at the time but was impressed none-the-less.

Tow/Haul on or off ?

Were you engaging the tow/haul mode on your trip down the mountain ?

The tow/haul mode, when used with the exhaust brake, provides some very aggressive downshifting.

Yeah I found that out playing with my friend's truck!
I guess if you can time getting on the throttle as it down shifts like a manual you can keep the false teeth in your head. I am looking forward to driving it again soon unloaded and loaded.

No, I just downshifted as necessary. It worked very well to say the least. I have used the tow/haul combination pulling the camper trailer and it is aggressive on the downshifts coming down the mountains. I would not want to come down the Lovell route loaded because it is scary enough empty.
