I was thinking about a possible upgrade in the next year. I was hoping I could get a few pointers in a NUTSHELL about ups and downs of model years, transmission configurations, etc. I am satisfied with my manual transmission but would love to go to an auto only if it is a braking type.

Hope you guys have fun with this..... :)

if it was me, i would go for an 04. 5-06 with a 6 speed. hands down not an automatic (if you really want one, buy a stick and ill trade ya my 48re :-laf). I love my truck but just wish it had an nv5600 in it... the 6. 7's seem more expensive to bomb, more complicated and not as easy to work on; i guess i just like the good ol 5. 9

my $. 02

I have a 04. 5 with the 48re and I would love to go back to a manual. Unless you do city driving, which from your sig doesn't look like it, don't get the auto. Also, for mileage reasons an 03-04 with a manual would be my choice, i. e. 04. 5 and later = terrible mileage compared to the earlier trucks.

Go for a brand new 09 and get it exactly the way and color you want . If you want auto, get it. Prices are really good now, especially at Dave Smith's in Kellogg, ID.

GO FOR THE GOLD!

Maybe I would be better to wait until Dodge comes out with a regular 4 door. I don't like the half sized backseat and the mega cabs look like a limo is swallowing a pickup. I like the 5. 9 but would like to think that I will be exapanding to family size in a few years.

Why oh why did dodge show so much genius when they partnered with Cummins but have absolutely had theit heads up their butts over this whole 4-door thing?!

I personally like the size of my truck... then again 95% of the time its me only driving and maybe one other person. The back seat is kinda small, but it still works. Now the mega cab, it has more room in the back than it does in the front; and to make them look sick just put either a leveling kit or 6' lift with like 35's or 38's. :-laf

That's what I would do, which is 09 for a 1500 and 10 for 2500 and larger.
