I need to get a toolbox (below or even with the rail). I was planning on picking one up at tractor supply or home depot. Before I do this, is there any other's out there with some cool feature I'm not aware of?

thanks

Weather Guard boxes and Rawson-Koenig Boxes are the best built. I would stay away from a box you get at the home depot. . You have a $40k++ truck and want to scroungs on a toolbox?? Come on! Have a little pride in what you are getting! I have had the same Rawson-Koenig M60-2 toolbox for 8 years now, and its been on 2 trucks! That is a good investment, and it is available in a version that sits down in the bed. Check out their website at http://www.rki-us.com/storage_crossboxes.shtml... . There you can check out their selection of boxes and find a dealer near you! Good luck, and get something that will be a lasting investment!

I have the same WeatherGuard box except mine has the black finish. It's been absolutely trouble-free - no leaks, no deterioration or chipping of the finish, no problems whatsoever.

I have that Home Depot box and I dont care becuase my shell covers it up, even sprayed the top with liner for the dog to climb up there.

If you plan on leaving it unguarded, beware, I think a toddler with a butter knife could get into it.

This might be veering off the thread a little bit, but I have a v. large Better Built that I got at the farm store. I am annoyed at all the aluminum dust that gets all over everything in the box. My question is; how have you guys taken care of this problem? Glue some carpet in? Would a spray-on bed liner stick to the inside of the box?

thanks,

david

I have the highway products box and it's right up there with pro-tech and weather guard. You would'nt believe how much stuff you can put in it. Back in 1994 I had the inside of a weather guard box shot with rhino liner and it held up fine

Bought a wide weatherguard

I went looking around and immediately crossed off the home depot style boxes, way to flimsy for what I need. Found this box brand new discounted to $320 because it was a floor model missing mounting hardware and tray. Sitting in the truck now, will mount it later this afternoon :-laf

FYI, this is the full-width box that goes from rail to rail... with the line-x in there it's a perfect fit. . maybe 1/4 - 1/2 inch gap on either side of the rail. . exactly what I was looking for.

Cant go wrong with the Weatherguard. I love those boxes. I had the biggest one they make, it was big enough that you could take a bath in it. In my opinion they are the easiest opening and closing boxes out there. I could push down with one finger with very little pressure on the lid and it would give a very possitive "click... click as both latches locked.

Highway products out Oregon they have web site have imho the very best, well engineered. I am not affiliated with them in any way, they build a fine product.

I have a transferflow combo box/tank in the bed (which is what i would vote for, but i dont know if you want the extra tank). like stated in an earlier post, i am very suspect of the security of the box though. Been thinking about a way to make it more secure without ruining the looks, but havent really come up with anything.

I lined mine with black carpet. Works great but has worn through in a couple of areas where i keep the air jack and impact.

I have a bit of a different situation as I have no bed. I have 4 posts sticking up right behind the cab where the bed used to be. I am thinking about a Weatherguard 665-5 (steel) or 664-5 (alum). Cost around $450 including tax? Does that sound about right.

I wonder if I will have any trouble since the box will not sit entirely on a flat surface. Only "bottom" it will have are these 4 posts

You can get an idea of what the posts are like here: #ad

Also... steel or aluminum? Not too concerned about the extra couple pounds the steel weighs.

I have the 664. 5, it is a quality box and your pricing sounds just about right!

If it were me, I would by the steel box to mount on the raised legs.
