Anyone have any ideas or recommendations? Looking for something small that will handle one hand gun and I can chain it to the metal seat. Any suggestions would be great since nothing locks in this truck (except the doors).

See I never keep the piece in the truck ... Allways on me. If the truck is stolen even with a vault ..... They have the time and means to get the vault open.

EDIT: Unless its for stste to state transport.

The toolman has the right idea.

I recommend an IWB (inside the waistband) holster for great concealment. Milt Sparks are a bunch of great guys doing excellent work - I have 3 of their holsters (2IWBs and 1 FBI cant strong hand on the belt). Also have a Kramer paddle for the times I need to 'lose' it when I enter certain buildings (try to avoid that, but it's not always possible).

To keep the legal beagels happy: Nothing in this post should be construed as condoning or propagating illegal carry of a weapon. The poster does have a CCW issued by the county sheriff for the state in which he lives, and always carries. :p

Thanks Jared, that looks like what I am looking for. Guys I need this since I sometimes cross state lines and this way the Cop can't say anything since he can't access the gun safe, and would need to get a warrant to have it opened which would require time and probable cause (which he would not have). Thanks for the replies.

Well not exactly. A warrant includes all areas of the vehicle including a safe. Search and seizure relenquishes any exclusions of hardware that is permanently mounted to a vehicles structure. I remember reading a post from a lawer on Packing.org about this very thing. When transporting accross state lines it is a good idea to have it broken down reguardless.

Tim I was a Cop in Overland Park Kansas in the early 80's. I know you need a search warrant to open the safe or any locked compartment or suit case Etc. Etc. in any automobile unless the owner gives you access and permission (dumb thing to do). It is not that easy to get a search warrant. You have to have a legally grounded reason and be able to convince a Judge. Also you can only detain a person for a limited amount of time without arresting them. If you want to be a cop for very long you don't want to be arresting people without a reason, and that reason has to be up front not after a fishing trip or a lawyer will hand you your head. Most cops will ask to search and most people will say OK. A cop can search within arms reach any thing that is not locked without your permission. I want the safe to keep the weapon safe and to keep myself out of trouble if I happen to go and visit a friend in Kansas. I agree that if I have the hand gun loaded in the gun safe that if they got a warrant they could charge me. Problem is in the state of Kansas to legally carry a hand gun, the gun must be unloaded and in the trunk of the car with the ammunition located in the glove compartment. Hard to do with a regular cab truck :) If you know any way around this problem let me know.
