Several people have asked me to put up some pics on how I mounted my CB along with the story of how I got it to work. So here it goes.

This is what it looks like with everything mounted

What I have is a Cobra CB 29LTD limited edition with the black face. Mounted directly below that is a Radio Shack 800 channel trunking scanner.

This is mounted in the dash in the panel section that has a small cubby hole on the manuals and has the drink holder on the automatics.

I bought a replacement panel for $35 and measured out what I would need space wise for a hole to fit the scanner and CB. Keep in mind there is not enough depth to mount them straight into the dash like the radio above them. They still need to be angled some. The first pic should be able to show that fairly well. I also knew I would not want to be making any cuts into the material behind the dash. my plan from the beginning was to make a mounting setup that I could pull and replace the original panel with a minimum of fuss and leave no marks behind.

This second pic shows the panel just pulled out slightly. The bottome of the panel has a tab that sits inside a small lip then you just lift the top part up against the dash and the tabs on top use two screws to hold the top in place. These are accessed by pulling of the dash trim bezel.

once, you have figured out what size hole you need in that dash panel you cut it. I used a dremel tool. this left some rough edges to the plastic and I wanted to make it look more finished so I went to the auto parts store and bought some of those black plastic door trim. The kind you pt on the door to stop dings when you open the door. and just cut it and slipped it over the plastic. worked great and they come with a gel adhesive inside already so it is a simple push on deal.

As I had said earlier I also did not want to be putting holes into the dash or anything like that so I mounted the brackets for holding the CB and scanner to the backsided of my cut dash piece.

This picture shows the bracket mount a little better. I got the brackets from a universal mounting kit from Radio shack.

One thing to keep in mind also is that the dash curves along the right side (when facing the dash. so when you are aliging everything it will look like it is a little crooked when it is just siting in the dash piece. Once it is mounted up in the truck again it will look fine.

Alot of it will be trial and error, to get the angles right and to make sure your cut is striaght, to the CB and not to the curves in the dash pieces. I took my time , measured 60 times and then cut once. The brackets had to be bent a little to get the right angles but again I just took my time and made sure I had it right.

The finished produst really looks nice and professionally done. Guys that have seen it in person have complimented me alot and asked me to do several of them for them.

I hope this is what you guys were asking for. the pics are all in my gallery so if you want to go there and choose to look at the bigger ones that might help. I just posted the small ones in these posts so it wouldn't slow things down as much when trying to load the page.

By the way it has been two years and 65,000 miles since I did this and I have never had a single problem. No cracks loose bolts or anything.
