In-Dash DVD Players Questions

Hi, everyone. I am wanting to get an in-dash dvd player for my truck. However, they all say that you have to be in park to watch DVDs. That does me no good. I don't necessary want to watch it but my passengers will and I don't want to pay to only watch the movie while sitting. Its purpose would be for long trips. Does anyone know if I can bypass this?

If you have a Quad Cab, mount the screen so it can be seen only by the passengers in the back seat. It would be a distraction to the driver to mount the screen on the dash.

I don't see why you would not be able to bypass it and make it work while moving. Just needto know which wire "detects" the park signal and supply the proper ground/power to it to trick the unit into thinking you are in park.



That said, I don't think it would be safe to have it playing where the driver was able to see it. I wonder if a person could possibly be pulled over if a peace officer sees it playing while on the road.

I'm not to worried about being pulled over with a movie playing, I have dark tinted windows. I am the only one who drive the truck and the one I am looking at is an in-dash player. The screen comes out of the dash and flips up. It also angles up and side to side a little so while I'm driving it will be angled away from me. It also has a head phone jack off the left side that the passengers will use. I don't see why you would not be able to bypass it and make it work while moving. Yes the wire is normally wired to the e brake which must be engaged to watch movies you just bypass it. Most shops won't do it unless you are friends with them or do alot business with them.

i know with the pioneer AVEC n2 in dash dvd played and gps nav it can bebypased bu pealing back a peice of tape on the unit and shorting the terminals behind the tape then the nav address menus can be accesed along with being able to watch dvd's

I understand your wish for having a DVD player in the vehicle. BUT, having the DVD play while driving WILL inevitably get your attention. There are enough distractions on the road without a DVD player. All it takes is half a second and you just killed one of your family members or someone else.



I urge you to look at other options, i. e. behind the headrest monitors, roof mounted flip downs.



There is a huge liability with bypassing the wiring. Not to mention the penalty your State will require of you... ever hear of Reckless Endangering? That's a misdemeanor which equals JAIL! The local police will be/are looking for these violations as they have proven to cause MAJOR traffic collisions!



I don't think this passes the "is this risk worth it" test. Just look at all the crosses on the side of the road to remind you of what can easily happen.



Besides, I remember a time when traveling over the road was a family (group) function. Those days seem to be numbered! Well, enough rambling. Be SAFE in your travels... Caz

not trying to be a jerk but having a dvd player is not a big distraction i have one and my friend has one and they do not distract either of us i get more distracted trying to look at hot grils in passing cars or ones that are riding with me or the all time worst is eating and driving but in anycase the olny way to take away all distractions is to isolate the driver from all passangers but they they still can fall asleep daydream or look at things they are passing



the olny real way to eliminate distraction is rais the speedlimit high enough that you are pushing the limits then you start paying attention to olny your driving i know some of you will think im an idiot for saying this but get real how many other things do you do daily when your driving



and they make the systems easy to bypass cause they know people wont buy them if there not easy to bypass the laws are just some stupid political BS just like window tint laws

Most can be bypassed it just depends on the unit as to how to do it. I have the AVIC N2 and have not done the bypass. I did ground the parking brake ground to a regular ground which doesn't really do much. This particular unit alows the headrest monitors or other auxiliary monitors to be viewed by the passengers anytime. It's be more money, but also more legal and safer.

to answer your question without all the "LEGAL BS". Yes it can be bypassed. I have a pioneer unit and it has a wire that needs to be connected to the e-brake, all you do is ground the wire all the time or to a 12v ignition (which ever your unit requires).





Now gee wasn't that easy. Try answering peoples questions THEN give them your sermon! :-{}

I have a Rockford In Dash Dvd Player it has the same "park only viewing" as yours, all it is is a wire that is grounded to the transmission (automatic) or ebrake (manuel). So i just grouned it to the chassis and it works all the time. YOur manual should say which wire it is ( i think mine was light green). Happy viewing!

i know with the pioneer acec-n2 you need to do more than ground the parking brake since it has navagation it has accelerometers and knows it is moving that is why you have to short two terminals on the circit board obvasloy they planed on people doing this since the made it so easy to access the the two terminals by just removing a peice of tape

Some brands, and I think Pioneer is one, have a gyro that can't be bypassed.

I was going to do the same as you and found that the Kenwood's are the easiest to bypass. They have a wire that contacts to the parking brake. To bypass, hook to ground. As to the naysayer's..... have you seen all the people on cell phones, eating, drinking, doing make up, reading the paper, having um... . carnel relations. How is it any less safe than someone using a navigation system? No difference in my book.

I got my unit the other day. I have it installed now and it works great. I bought a Panasonic one that just came out on to the market. It has just one wire that connects to the e-brake. All I did was grounded it and now it works any time. By the way this unit has two audio outputs and allows me to expand in the future with headrest monitors that simply plug it the back of the deck. It also does the same for backup camera, navigation (coming soon), vcr, dvd changer, etc. So far its a great addition to my truck. Thanks Guys

It's only ILLEGAL if it's playing a movie, video game, TV. Not if it's a rear view camera, navigation, radio display. If it was totally illegal then NO car could be sold in Texas with factory navigation, rear view mirrors or a radio with any kind of a screen. So keep that in mind if using it at night when it's more visible to the other people. I have the Pioneer version in my semi and I use it occasionally for tv and it works really well. (yes I know it's illegal and no I don't care so spare me the lecture. So is speeding and i bet you do that)

BTW tint doesn't matter at night either. I put head rest screes in my wifes Escalade with 5% tint on the windows. At night you can see what's playing from the vehicle next to it at a light...
