I am right in the middle (well, actually almost done ) but I cant figure out what to do with the boost control elbow. The stock elbow had a 'T' fitting on it sending one hose to the wastegate on the turbo, and one into the cylinder head. Which one do I need to hook up to the TST supplied elbow and which one gets abandoned??????? (was an egr equipped vehicle)

Boost elbow goes to the wastegate, now the other one never seen that but only cause my truck doesn't have it.

There's a hose running from the turbo between the valve covers of Cyl#3&4 and into the top of the "T" on the back of the AFC housing.



Remove the hose from the T.

Unscrew the barb fitting from the T and replace it with the elbow you got in the kit.



Then put the hose on the elbow. You'll probably have to turn the T a bit to line up the elbow and hose better.



At least that's what I had to do on my '96.

tst done, LOST power,lost boost

Stock my truck would slowly develope 20 lbs boost when standing on the brakes and the throttle pedal at the same time. Now with the tst kit (#6) it only builds to 10 lbs. (it will almost get to twenty when the TC locks up). This is a 97 12v, all air fittings are good, I suspect something went awry in the AFC spring installation but am not sure.

Make sure you hooked up the line from the intake manifold to the AFC. The one you see coming from the "cylinder head" This is the boost signal. This line pressurizes the AFC with moves the Arm forward giving you more fuel. Your truck will be a dog with this unhooked. Does the throttle feel like it has limited travel and alot of resistance?

yes, it was the line from the manifold to the AFC, I had removed it and plugged the hole with the pipe plug I had removed to install the boost guage line. I mistakenly thought the installation instructions indicated removal of the 't' and replacing it with the new elbow, duhhh, upon re-reading it says "remove the barb". not the "t" Anyway, thanks for the tips, the truck hauls ass now, hits 30psi boost very quickly, now I gotta tighten up that torque converter... .



To anyone that hasnt TST'ed their truck: You just gotta do it! Its a blast!

What does this boost elbow do? Does it somehow effect the AFC? I have installed the #8 plate, but no boost elbow.

The boost elbow makes the wastegate open later increasing boost from about 17 psi to 30 psi. This enables the increased fuel to burn more effectively.

I just pulled the hose off the wastegate and did that...

now it boost to 30 or even 35 psi at real high speeds.

my wastegate is plugged so i'm only seeing 30 (MAYBE 30. 5) pounds of boost with my stock plate forward. the boost guage line just went into the tester port for me... . no biggy.

Gifford, I was considering doing the same modification as you, but on the TST site it says not available for Calif. /EGR trucks. Is that what you have? Does anyone have any experience with this? Maybe just a legality issue, or is it a mechanical issue?

Curious in Calif. (96' ext. cab,auto,LB,stock)

The California trucks will work just fine with a TST kit but TST kits are not Calif. CARB ,California air resorces board, certified. TST legally can not state that they will work because they have not been tested. I asked Mark ths very question 5 years ago and he said that it costs in excess of 100,000$ just to get them tested. :--) He never did the testing.

Yes my truck is a California EGR equipped 12V. THe TST power upgrade works GREAT. My truck now smokes the tires from first THROUGH second (automatic) PM me for details as we California owners have to do a little extra work when installing TST.
