Hi, 2006 truck in sig with 78000 on the odo. Changed oil and filter at 75000, noticed when checking oil level yesterday on level ground that it appears about a quart overfull. I used 12 qts of 15w-40 Napa oil and correct filter. In the past changes the truck has stayed at the full line. I change oil and filter every 5K miles.

I do some trailer pulling with the truck up to about 13K, but primarily it is a daily driver. Seems to run fine, notice no smoke on start up, it will puff some black on hammer down after sitting in traffic for awhile, but only a 1-2 second puff, then clear.

Oil is black as it turns immediately after changing.

The idle may be a little rougher than originally when I bought the truck about 2 years ago. I changed fuel filter at 70K, I do fuel filter changes at 15K intervals. I run white bottle power service on a regular basis.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks, Luke:confused:

Take an oil sample and send it to Blackstone for an analysis looking for fuel in oil. The only thing that can cause oil to magically increase would be fuel.

Thus an injector problem of some sort. Chris

Thanks - I ordered the Blackstone kit yesterday, will do an oil change this weekend and send off for analysis.

I understand that the 2006 trucks seem to have a higher rate of injector issues than others. My engine was built 10-19-2005 - the truck is a Oct 2005 build.

Thanks, Luke

My 2005 had the oil rising problem. Dealer replaced the CP3 which was leaking and that took care of the problem. Lucky for me, the engine was still under warranty.

You can also get intermittent higher oil level. Sometimes oil siphons out of the filter when you park, this is rather common and there have been many posts about that issue. That could easily be your problem. It can raise the level on the dipstick about 1/4 inch when it happens. With that issue it never gets higher than 1/4 inch or so. With fuel leaks it keeps rising.

--Thanks good info, sample has been sent to Blackstone, and I am monitoring the oil level 2x per week.

why do you say that the 06 has injector issues..first i have heard of this...no different than other years...thanks

First I've heard about higher rate of injector problems with early third gens. I know people cracked them with high pressure - especially in the beginning but the aftermarket has moved away from that for the most part and we buyers (mostly) know better. But stock engines were VERY reliable IMO. The fact that these particular models are so sought after bears this out I think.
Certainly nothing like the Durapads of the same years!
