Can I use a boost fooler on my 24v to increase boost without doing anything else? I've got a Van Aken box and 4" and Banks brake. Thinking about making my own after seeing what TST offers with their 12v torque plates. What kinda boost #'s do I need to stay away from?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a boost fooler only trick the ECM into not throwing an overboost code? A boost fooler alone shouldn't give you any power.

Your boost is limited by your wastegate. I believe these things are set at around 20. 5 pounds. Most fueling/timing boxes come with a boost elbow that replaces the stock piece that screws into the front of the turbo. The one that came with my EZ has a small hole drilled in it to bleed off some air so the WG won't open until 32 pounds.

The Edge EZ itself acts as a boost fooler so no codes will be thrown. I would have thought that the Van Aaken box would do the same. If that's the case, then you just need to get a boost elbow so your boost will go up.

FWIW, higher boost is only going to cool your EGT's down. There's no performance gains.

Also, a stock HX35 turbo is safe to around 35psi. Stay away from anything over that, but you shouldn't have any problems with just a box.

The boost fooler only acts as a way to stop the ecm from reading any more than 20psi, it will not give you any more boost, but you will need it.

Chances are good if you have an auto, you have an HY, if you have a manual then you will probably have an HX. There is a identificaiton plate on the front of the turbo, it will tell you which turbo you have.

To adjust the wastegate is different on these two turbos, just do a search for 'disabling wastegate' + your turbo and you should find all the information you need.

YOu can tighten the waste gate with a spring and turnbuckle on any turbo, the trick is adjusting it up just a little bit, so you don't throw a code. I using two electrical titewraps and sprind and turnbuckle off my HY35 on the HX35. Mkaes it easy to remove.

The best I can remember, there is no identification plate on an HY35. Identifying one is still pretty easy though. An HY has a clamped construction whereas the HX has a bolted design. Also, a 9cm housing is hard to mistake for a 12 if you've ever seen a 12cm.

Check out http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/turbo_faq.htm for more information.

I believe that HY35's were only used on 2001 and 2002 trucks.

As far as boost, the max boost for an HY is only going to be around 29 or 30 psi.

It won't give you more boost, but if the ECM sees more than ~20# without a boost fooler it will defuel the engine to bring boost down. Good rule of thumb I remember is less than 30 for the auto (HY35, spring wastegate actuator) and less than 35 for the manual (HX35, vacuum hose from intake side of turbo to the wastegate actuator)
