I was contemplating an air horn for my truck and aside from the ones we all know and love (Hadley, Grover..... ) has anyone any real experience with some of the lesser expensive (dare I say cheap) units out there? Seems like some of them souldn't be too bad, in and around the $100 range. They lack a tank and instead use one of this instant compressors. Comments anyone???

I'd prefer not spending the $275 - $500, need to save for Bill K's BOMBs! :D:D

Have you looked in JCWhitney? They seem to carry a number of different air horns. Some of their horns are electric rather than air powered. Whichever way you go, once you have them you'll love them. I'm considering installing a second set of Grover's (different pitch) to make an even louder sound.

I installed a set of the cheap ($21. 95) air horns from the local auto parts store. They are no Hadleys or Grovers, but substantially louder than the stock horns.

Mine are about 10 inches long, JCWhitney also has some with 15 inch horns for about 49 dollars. They are on the web.

How about one of those freon powered marine horns? just hold it out the window. That is the cheapest and easiest to "Install" you will ever find. Just an idea

The freon air horn would be great for a planned attack... but essentially useless for the split second a guy(gal) cuts you off in traffic. Nobody would have time to grab it, roll down the window and blow it to keep someone from backing into them or swerving into them. I am sure it is plenty loud, tho.

Hand held air horn... ... ... mmm. Usually in CA when they roll down the window and pull something out, you duck cause they might be shoot'n at ya!:D :D

I ordered a set of WALO?? today from JC Whitney. We'll see, $69 or so.

I found a set of 5 air horns that play the theme from the Godfather. Only 60 bucks, They also had La Cucaracha (Spelling) and Dixie, Maybe they would interest you? Let me know, ill order a set for you too. Your truck would be real cool playing la Cucaracha after some guy cuts you off. I am sticking with the Godfather

I got a set of "FIAMM" air horns from J. C. Whitney. They are a set of triple-trumpet for $25. 99 plus shipping. They send out a 134db blast that will get your attention. It was Rob's set gave me the idea.

I have the scotty system (KN RE-0880 Filter), so I mounted mine where the stock air box used to be. If I decide to keep them, I would mount them down lower, probably below the battery somewhere.

Bill,

I've got a big 'ole Grover mounted across the back of the front crossmember under the engine, but I don't see why you couldn't mount nearly any kind of horn there. At first I was worried about the sound not getting out, but after a little "testing" :D :D I'm not so worried any more... .

I have a pair of Hadley Ambassadors mounted under the hood of my truck. Looked all over for a suitable place to mount them without drilling holes in the cab... ... was ready to send them back... ... . when I tried laying them in the engine compartment along the valve cover. Longest horn is on the passenger side from the firewall to the alternator... . the other is attached near the hood hinge and sits at a slight angle toward the motor.

Brackets were fabricated out of aluminum. Glad I did not send them back or sell them! They sound great!!!

Thinking about adding a set of Hadley Bullies behind the front bumper now ( the Ambassadors were toooo big to fit in that location )
