On my 1996 quad cab, 4x4 The auto transmission cooler line connectors are starting to leak small amounts of fluid and I would like to know what is the latest and greatest fix. Do I have to replace the whole line or is their a cut and piece solution? If I have to replace the whole line from cooler to trans who has the best and cheapest replacement parts.

Thanks

Club cab, right? Quads came out in 98. You can buy new o rings for the quick disconnects. The old ones lasted ten years. Get good ones that will hold up to heat and ATF.

I threw the whole mess away. Replaced it with hydraulic hose. About the time I finally got the fittings to stop leaking, there were a few holes rubbed in the lines where they cross between the engine and transmission. That was inspite putting some plastic tubing around one of them. At least with a '96, you don't have to worry about the transmission temp sensor.

Go with the hydraulic lines, I had all kinda problems, went thru abou three sets and now running the fourth, o k for now, they finally upgraded to better ones with seperators to keep the lines from rubbing thru. Go to a parts place like N A P A and have custom ones made. Stormy

My solution...

We are currently in the process of replacing ALL the lines on my son's 96. The original were the plastic clip version that I understand cannot be repaired and either melt or fail. (great design no doubt by the VP in charge of profitability of the service division) We are using 300 degree hydraulic hose rated at 250 PSI with Socketless (push on) connectors. Not exactly cheap, but easily fabricated at home and should last as long as any other hose. Hose is Aeroquip FC332 with AN8 fittings. Could eliminate the swivel fittings and save some cost by using just push on without the AN8 swivels but this will be very convenient for service and generally neater.

See link for hoae spec:

Looks like about $250 including new hoses and connectors to the front transmission cooler and fittings for temp sender and fan cooler. Using the same hose for the fan cooler on my 2001.
