Ok, i will admit I have been driving my truck for 3 years with the drivers door speaker not working. I have taken the door panel off, and gave it a good "looking at". Tried to use a multi tester to detect any current coming through that wild looking harness that plugs into the speaker. Finally I gave up and put it back together, and said "I will just turn it up". Well, now that I have installed my XM radio and my big mud tires that look so good have a bit of wear on them, I have to crank my stereo up all the way to hear whats going on.

So... . I am wondering if any of you have had the same problems. Should I try to find a new speaker with the infinity amplifier on the back, would that help. I have heard that people have had problems with channels blowing out of the stock head unit.

If thats the case, I have already tried to find a reasonably priced stock headunit with a CD player, and that is near impossible. Lase summer I bought two, I was working in Texas and my truck was in Indiana, so I didnt check the plugs, well on ended up being the wrong plug, and one that was advertised as being a CD player, when delivered was a tape. So I have given up that idea.

I suppose that if I replace the stock headunit, since its and Infinity system, I will have to replace the component system as well. How does that work with the a-pillar tweeters? Dont know if I want to do that.

So I am referring to my TDR psychologists, to help guide me through these troubling times of trying to listen to the radio. Tell me what ya think.

Thanks in advance

I had the infinity stereo, and replaced it with an aftermarket - keeping the factory speakers and it works great.

As long as you supply power to the speaker amps, it will work fine. There is one wire that feeds power to all speakers.

My question to you: Do you know if the stereo is bad or if the speakers are bad? The factory infinity speakers each have a small amp on them - which can go bad - but rarely.

If only one speaker is not working I'd initially suspect the wiring or speaker itself. Did you swap speakers from door to door? That would prove if it is the speaker or not.

I've got the same problem with my drivers side speaker. I took it apart last weekend and did all the checks I could according to the service manual and didn't find anything wrong. Plugged everything back in and it worked (except for the tweeter in the A pillar, I can live without that). I tried wiggling all the conections to find a bad one, and it kept working. Put the door back together and it worked going to work the next day, didn't coming home. Worked the next going to work and has been dead ever since. Sure sounds like a bad connection, but where? Guess I should try the swapping front door speakers too. I'm not crazy about aftermarket stereos. I like simple controls and all the aftermarket stuff I've seen has multiple function buttons and 10 pages of instrucions to use it.

Make sure nothing got pinched/kinked etc on the wires from the door post to the door (by the hinge).

I've had problems on several vehicles where the constant flexing there caused the wires to break - which caused intermittant connections.
