The stereo in my '01 works fine except for some of the lights. The lights in the equalizer slide switches where the first to go and now the lights behind the power on and scan are out. Basically I have no lights on the left hand side of the unit.

Has anyone ever attempted to make a repair on these lights? I assume they are led's that are soldered on a circuit board, but don't want to tear into it blind.

Would like to get these working so any assistance would be appreciated!

Ten or fifteen years ago there was an electronics shop just west of Alderson BMW on 19th Street that specialized in repairing car/truck sound systems for dealers. If they're still there that would be one possible solution. Alderson sent me there years ago when my wife's BMW ate a cassette tape. They repaired it for a modest price. All the local dealer used car managers used them at the time.

Another is a small shop in a strip shopping center on the west side of Ave Q south of 34th Street, South Plains Electronics. The guy that owns and operates the ship is named Bob. He's a good guy who does good work for modest prices.

I haven't opened mine up but the lamps are probably incandescent "grain of wheat" bulbs soldered to a circuit board. "grain of wheat" or "wheat" refers to the size although they look more like a grain of rice. About 1/4" long.

I figure that you are probably right. Checked with two local shops ( Thanks Harvey!) one said he was not familiar with the Infinity units and really didn't want to mess with it..... the other said it would be $125 to open it up and then whatever the cost of the parts would be. Think I will just put up with it for now... . May try and check it out myself but I am not interested in spending over a $100 on a system that is that old..... Cheaper to replace with current technology.

Thanks for all the input.

On my 99 the system I'm pretty sure is an Infinity - the speakers and boosters have infinity stamped on them at least (it's the one with the 3 slides for the equalizer and the hokey little joy stick for fade/balance). I had a problem with the CD player and took it all apart upon removal of the front face plate (wired to the unit w/ribbon wire like on a PC) I noticed the dinky bulbs looked as if they'd pull out and be easilly replaced - if you can find new ones... But then there wasn't a problem with the lights. Of course about 8 or 9 months later I lost some lighting.

My unit has a few lamps that don't work too the middle 3 channel buttons (2, 3 & 4) are out and sometimes the EQ slide lamps go out and come back on. Problem for me with considering a newer tech unit, I like the old one that came with the truck. All these new ones have too many buttons and gizmos to figure out - I'm a KISS kind of guy = Keep It Simple Stupid for old farts like me.....

I agree... ... Checked out Crutchfield and it seems that everything they sell has more gadgets and gizmos than I would ever need!! I didn't even know what half the stuff was that they said I could plug in... ... . I'm just going to put up with lights that are out or use a small flashlight!
