Governor Daniels met with DaimlerChrysler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche (DEE'-tur TSET'-sheh) in Germany today shortly after Zetche announced that DaimlerChrysler will sell more than 80% of its money-losing Chrysler Group to a private equity firm.
In a telephone interview with The Associated Press, the Governor called the meeting an "incredible stroke of luck. "
He says that he's confident that Chrysler's operations in Kokomo will not be effected by the deal and that other possible deals involving Chrysler will continue.
Tipton County officials said last month that Getrag Automotive Group was close to a possible announcement on a joint venture with DaimlerChrysler to build a transmission plant.
Daniels is leading a 32-member delegation on a trade mission to Germany and the United Kingdom.
