May madness 2012

Thunder in Muncie '09 - is anyone going?

Joseph Donnelly

TDR MEMBER
The 18th Annual Turbo Diesel Register (TDR) Western Regional Rally, “May Madness,” [MM ’12]

The 18th Annual May Madness will be held on April 30--May 6, 2012 in Pahrump, Nevada. Other brands of diesel trucks will be welcome in addition to Cummins powered Dodges. We plan to hold most events at Saitta-Trudeau Dodge, at the nearby Pahrump Nugget (the host hotel), and at Preferred RV (the host RV Park).

The rally will again include the vendors’ “Hall of Gottahavits,” technical talks, dyno, and drag racing. There will be a Best Dressed/Show-n-Shine Truck contest, and a Ram Rodeo with a Ram roundup for all attendees.

Diesel Specialists of Las Vegas and BD Power will hold a Dyno Day with their high inertia, wide roller Dynojet, for TDR member attendees of May Madness. Pre-registration for the Dyno Day is being made so Diesel Specialists and BD power can plan their event. Include $30 with your May Madness registration and the dyno pre-registration information and funds will be forwarded to them. BD will give the first forty who pre-register a $30 gift certificate (at the Dyno Day event) good for any BD manufactured product at BD directly; this certificate may also be redeemed at Diesel Specialists for $50 on the Dyno Day, a bonus of $20 from them.

The Pahrump Nugget (866-751-6500; Home | Pahrump) is the host hotel and is conveniently located in the center of Pahrump and close to Saitta-Trudeau Dodge. The banquet, Vendors’ Hall of Gottahavits, and Vendors’ Friday/Saturday Seminar series will be held at the Nugget. Hotel rate will be about $70 ($80 weekend). You MUST reserve your room giving the “May Madness” group identifier, and specify the dates early, as the number of rooms is limited.

The host RV Park is Preferred RV Resort (800-445-7840; Preferred RV Resort-Pahrump, Nevada). This RV Park is across the side street from the Pahrump Nugget. They are once again giving us the special rate of $15. 49 including tax. Be sure to tell them you are with “MAY MADNESS. ” Their clubhouse holds 130 people and will be the site for the seminars up through Thursday.

Other options include the Best Western Hotel and RV Park (775-727-5100), and Saddle West Hotel/Casino/RV Park (800-433-3987, www.saddlewest), both in Pahrump.

It is VERY IMPORTANT to register for May Madness--2012 early so you and we can plan for a better rally. We need a good idea of how many will participate because we have to guarantee numbers for the hotel, banquet, etc. Note that the registration cost is MUCH lower if you are an “early-bird. ” Our planning and reservation processes begin a year before the rally. If you need vendor space or special accommodations, contact Joe Donnelly for arrangements: 505-858-1966 or -- email address removed --

Yes Eric, There will be a bulletin board at our RV Resort space where you can post any items you might have for sale. Sometimes guys leave their stuff by the bulletin board in front of our rig. Others may just leave a notice and directions as to how to get in touch with you. I have post card things I print out where you can put all that information. The bulletin board should be up Sunday afternoon as soon as Joe brings it up from Vegas. See you Monday, probably at the dealership. Nancy

The San Jose Ramrunners gang will be headed for MAY MADNESS Sunday morning the 29th if anyone else in the area wants to join us on the trip.

Missing May Madness Once Again#####

Well, another May Madness missed, again. This is just killing me!!!! It's like a kid missing out on a trip to Disneyland.

Friday night, 5/4/12 &, I'm hoping the rest of you are having a great time in Parumph, NV. Sure wish I was there but, family matters won't allow me to go, again.

In case you haven't guessed, I'M JEALOUS!!!!!! Hopefully, next year I'll also be able to go once more.

Have fun.

Hey Joe, While the numbers were down a bit from last year [and I've noticed the same thing at at the other 3 rallies we've been to this year] we did have fun. We had sandwiches at Saitta Trudeau dealership during registration and of course meeting new attendees and hugging everyone we hadn't seen in a year is always a plus!
The ever famous pot luck on the lawn at Preferred RV park was absolutely delicious--Man, where does all that food come from???:p
There were daily breakfasts if you were inclined to get up that early.
The safety days seminars were well attended at the RV park as were those that were held at the Nugget. There were 2 craft type get together's for those who don't love to talk about all things Dodge.
The Hall Of Gottahavits had 8 vendors who were set up all day Friday and until 1 pm on Saturday.
I just hated the I had to miss the Roundtable discussion but I heard it was as lively as ever! Do we Dodge owners have opinions or what!!!!!
The Ram/Rodeo/Divorce Derby had to be cancelled for lack of attendance but I head later that quite a few attendees weren't sure what it was all about. I'm sure that will be remedied for next year.
I was at my booth so I don't know who all attended the Technical Seminar at Saitta. If anyone knows, post it here
I heard some pretty good numbers from those who went to Dyno Days which was followed up by Drag Racing at Las Vegas Speedway.
There was only one scheduling conflict for the whole event but sometimes "stuff happens".
The banquet/awards dinner was fun as usual and quite a few trophies were handed out. I found out that that night that May Madness has been going on for 18 years and I for one want to offer a heartfelt Thank You to the small dedicated group that works so tirelessly to keep this event going. The slide show of participants and trucks that played on a loop while we chatted and ate was really neat. Ok Eric & Harry--Do I need to remind you to only take my picture when I'm smiling:eek:???
We did have a discussion on future May Madness events and I believe we all walked away with a renewed sense of making it better and better. Some pretty good suggestions were made.

Soooo Joe F, you were right to be jealous, just make sure you can join in on the fun next year. Di
