Had mine to Cummins 3 times and every time the mechanic ( different ones ) said its normal combustion knock. Mine does it all the time in gear, sounds like a top end knock on one cy, heard best by drivers door when open or when driving by a barrier wall.
Note: just replaced DD2's with replacement set of DD2's and knock is not as previlant. One injector, #3, had a big gob of carbon on the tip at the nozzlels, the rest were clean as a whistle. They had 0 miles since 2200 mi trip towing 5th.
