Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) injection pump dilema

I have a dilema. For the second time, Ive got the P1693 and P0216 codes set. I understand this means my injection pump is going south. My 5 year warrantee expires in about 2 weeks. Im tryng to decide if I should call the dealer and get the new IP for free, or should I go to my regular diesel mechanic and have him install one. Free is free. But, should I be concerned about the pump the dealer will install ? I dont want to put in the new pump, and then be stranded in Northe Dakota when I drive back there next week because the dealers pump isnt up to speed. I also dont want to have to replace the pump again in 6 months.

Your right no price is better than free. I'd let the dealer do a I/P and the in tank pump and then just take it out and do something differant. Do you have a gauge?

Thanks for the reply. I just had the LP replaced with the intank pump a couple of months ago. Right after that, I installed the low fuel pressure LED. As soon as I saw it lite up, I had a pusher pump installed. I now have great fuel pressure. LED doesnt lite any more. But now the 0216 and 1693 codes come on.



If the quality of the dealers injection pump and the actual install is as good as my other diesel mechanic, than its the free pump for me. Ive just had some bad experiences with dealers. (not putting radiator caps back on, not putting the top back on the crankcase bottle, misreading brake fluid reservoirs and quality, unskilled at reading tire pressure gauges, etc. )

Dwane Lane in Evertte is a good bomb friendly dealer. I've never used him myself when I had a warrantee because I never needed to. There are lots of people who have and had a good luck. Have you heard of the local club? link at the bottom of my sig www.nwbombers.com

Thanks for the info. The only mod I have is an ez box. But it sure would be nice to find a dealer that had any brains (at least about the diesel ram). I think Ill give Duane Lane a try.

I'll be surprised if the dealer doesn't give you crapp about the exta pump. Yuo might want to pull the external pump and let the in-tank pull you into the shop. They'll be looking for anything to deny warrenty.

Go for the free pump, then have a HPVP44 installed and keep your free pump for a back up.
