I had about 47,000 miles on my truck when it happened. The check engine light came on. The owners manual says that it is a timing/emissions problem and you can still drive the truck, but have it checked. Since I did not notice anything amiss, all fluids were OK, I continued on to Mesa, AZ.

There I removed the EZ Edge chip and took it ti the Dealer. (With fingers crossed since it has only the power-train warranty now.

They fixed it-tilling me the following . Vehicle had a code for injection pump timing failure, so they replaced it. Transfer pump had low flow-replaced. I have the BD low pressure warning light but it never came on. Truck rung good and seems quieter.

CAlled Edge and they said that this injection pump was prone to problems, was weak-especially with low fuel flow. Send them the chip and they will check it out, I will. Also might install a booster pump. Already have the larger Banjo fittings.

Has anybody experienced anything like this?

Let me add this to my previous post. it was triggered by another post on cooling fuel.

i was towing a 17ft boat and the temperature was between 110 and 115I don't know what the underhood temp was and the fuel tank was about 1/2 full.

A couple of us have had the 0216 code when the temps outside were hot or the truck was pulling and the under hood temps were hot.

0216 is a VP failure in its timing system and generally means changing the VP to correct the problem. There is some interesting information on the www.BlueChipDiesel.com site about VP's and a "FedEx" VP that FedEx had Bosch do with tougher electronics and a few changes to the internals of the VP.

Heat seems to be a fairly significant problem with the 2002 VP's. A couple of us are experimenting with different ways to get the VP operating temperature down to lessen the heat problems. Have no idea if it will be a positive solution or not, but I fugure it can't hurt to run the VP cooler than HOT.

The cooling is by fuel and less than about 1/2 tank starts allowing the cooling fuel to not be very cool before going back to the VP to cool it. In the VP temperature thread ther are a couple of ideas on that too.

Very common symptoms, unfortuantly.

I have a similar problem that happens when I turn the A/C on. VP electronics get too hot, I've never gotten the p0216 code from this though, usually just throws a low boost code and the truck goes into limp mode until I turn it off for a while and let things cool down, after that its fine, I'm just scared to turn on the A/C because I know one of these times it will be a dieing VP. Never happens when the A/C is off though, but I'm tired of sweating my *ss off in traffic.

This is one good reason I'm looking for a 12 valver.
