Well had to pick up my termially ill father in Largo Florida and bring him home (Brenham). After three days of pure stress, (lawyers for DPOA, living will, selling the house etc) we are driving back when there is smoke coming off my truck. Stop and find out that the overflow tube is spewing out diesel mixed with oil. Now get this, oil pressure right at 40 psi, temp right at 200 and the fuel gauge was dropping like a drum. Beleive this the engine is running smoother than ever. :--)

Well thankfully?? We get to a diesel repair in Lake City and he confirms, your injection pump is gone and you are one lucky fellar that you didn't seize up the engine.

Well here is that bad news mileage 79,700 miles. Out of Warranty????????? :( Out of pocket apprx. $3500 with labor... . prvided there isn't any metal when he drains the oil.....

100K warranty or seven years on injection pump is what I understand also. An $3500. 00 smackers seems pretty steep to me. What are they charging for the labor end of it.

I know of one case where DC replaced this guys pump with just a hair over the 100K, I think though he had to pay the deductible. :-laf. Guess it depends on the dealership.

Hope you paid with a check or credit card.

First of all, sincere condolences on your father. It certainly seems like when it rains, it pours.

Having said that, I completely agree that pump is under warranty. The question is: will they honor the warranty with all the mods you've got? Unknown, but I hope for your wallet's sake that they do.

Best of luck...

I forgot to add that I cant believe that its the pump? it sounds like the injectors are leaking buy the pintal or into the valve cover area. The pump going out will cause the motor to not run, not fill up with fuel in the crankcase. It could also be the o-ring that seals the injector into the head leaking.

john

Not that I know anything but this is the first High Pressure pump that I have heard of leaking fuel into the crankcase. I know there has been several cases of an Injector leaking fuel in to the crankcase. Make sure the guy knows for sure where the fuel is coming from before you spend that kind of money.

Isn't the EZ a pressure box??

Seems like if it is, then it's very likely part of the problem. I would guess that you have blown out your injector o- rings. If you took the truck into the dealer with the box on, then they may void your drivetrain warranty. It seems like some dealers don't care about upgrades, and some are looking for any reason to not do warranty work.

Well guys I got my truck back today and guess what? Sure enough my injection pump was the culprit of my leak and was consequently replaced. I think the truck is actually quieter at idle than before. Only took 1 day to replace and she's back in action. :)

Just how hard is the injection pump to replace? I mean, could a reasonably mechanical person do the changeout in 1 weekend in his driveway?

-Ryan

Well it turns out it was injector number 2. No warranty since of all my modifications, PG7 air box, boost guage, EGT guage. (remnoved EZ) $1000. 00

So lesson here is (as the expression goes you play... you pay ) any modifications will void the warranty... ... yes I had the EZ but it was on level 3 (mild) just for my concern with the rail pressures. So goodbye EDGE EZ (don't recommend it to anyone) hello pulse/duration box or better yet get high performance injectors... .

23 years driving FERDS never left me stranded. Drive a great Dodge Cummuins and get left go figure!!!!!!!!!!

OBTW dad is going into brain surgery tommorrow.

FIrst off I hope you dad does ok. $1000 for one injector holy cow. I believe I would have bought a new set of performance injectors and sent those back for cores.

Yeah but right now my dad is my main concern. $1000 ... ... 3 hours teardown to find problem, $400 injector, $75 tow charge and uncle sams share, they are pretty proud of DC's hourly rate. Makes you wonder about taking them to the cleaners cause if you give them a chance they will clean your plow..... good ole capitalism...

Bad seal in the Cp3 can fill the crankcase
