Ford..pulling Dodge..pulling Ford

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for info or tell me what i would need to know about taking the pump off of a little 1310 ford tractor. It is our little maintenance tractor for our church and for the second time the seal has gone bad allowing diesel fuel to mix in with the crankcase oil. The last time was about 2 years ago and it ended up costing about 1500 by the time they took the pump off and fixed the problem the replaced it. I told the church I would try to help them out the best I could. I told them it could mean I would just haul it to the shop or take the pump off and get it fixed or end up doing the whole job. It all depends on how hard it is and if I can handle it with the proper info. I am willing to do the whole job if someone can help me the the info I need.

Thanks a bunch

Lloyd

inline or rotary pump? it may be a complicated job to rebuild/reseal the pump yourself, but you can take it off and put it on yourself with basic hand tools with no problems [hopefully] and have an injection shop fix it up. can save some money that way. if you do that, scribe a mark between the engine and the pump on the mounting flange so you can align them back up afterwards to not have to mess with the timing.

sounds like the fuel they are using is total garbage to break down a seal so quick. it needs better filteration and quality fuel [some fuel additives could help too. ]

before doing anything, it is a good idea to try and get some service literature on that tractor/engine. .

sorry i can't be of more help.

:(

Can't remember for sure about the pump. I know they run regular #2 right out of a pump. It is not a dyed fuel. They buy it from the same place I buy my diesel.

If it is a rotary pump, (Roosamaster), the seal stays on the shaft that is pressed in the drive gear that stays with the engine. The seal canbe replaced by just pulling pump off. New seal has to be expanded to slip on shaft then compressed to slide in pump housing. Sounds complicated, but isn't.

If the engine has a diaphram lift pump, that could be leaking. Some didn't have weep holes, so fuel could run to outside.

Can't help with the seal but... Once you get the tractor up and running again, I would use a fuel additive to increase the lubricity.

Well, I went down and picked up the tractor tonight on my car trailer. After getting it home and checking some things, it is hydraulic oil getting into the crank case. It isn't diesel fuel like I had originally thought. It looks as though the hydraulic pump is mounted on the front of the engine and there must be a seal between the two letting the hydraulic oil get into the crankcase.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I am going to order a repair manual, but was curious if anyone else has ever had a similar problem or had heard of something similar.
