Injection pump leaking at vent

Well, I finally joined you guys after periodically perusing your most excellent site!

And of course I have an issue with my 1991 W250.

It seems that is sprung a leak from the rubber spout on the back of the injection pump. I took off the rubber cap with spout and took out the bolt. It has a hole in it with some fiber filter inside and that's where it's dripping from.

Is there a simple way of fixing it, or does the pump need a total rebuilt?



Also where can I get the repair manual?

Take a look at the Governor Spring/VE Pump sticky at the top of the Gen 1 forum page. It will give you most of what you need. The leak you have is probably the seal of the fuel pin inside the aneroid control. You can pull the top of the pump and have it resealed with out removing the whole pump. Good luck.

Unfortunately, where I live, we don't have any fancy shops like that. It's either NAPA, dealer, or the internet.

The leak you are describing is from the seal that is behind the "guide pin" on the pump.

In order to fix it, the pump top has to come off. From there, there is a shaft that holds a particular lever in place on the inside of the pump top... . then the guide pin and seal need to be pressed out and replaced.

It is not a major deal. You can remove the pump top if you are carefull and take it in for repair.

Just make sure you don't forget to cover the open pump body with a clean, lint free cloth so no dirt gets in while the top is off.



Actually, I have a pump top in right now for just that exact same thing... wierd eh... go figure...

Is it fairly easy to fix that myself once I have the top off?

What is the part number/name of the gasket I'll need?

I don't know of anyone in town that will do just the pump...

Also do you think it's an impeding sign of pump failure?
