You can change the timing on a 12v without removing the cover. Can’t play with the timing on 24v pump and gear are keyed only way is with a tuner.
 
Actually, the key on the VP pump has some “timing” to it, that’s how they’re calibrated. There are keys with different offsets. That’s why it’s imperative that you use the key that comes with the new pump.
 
Just for my proper understanding, isn't VP44 pump timing affected by tuners such as the Edge EZ. I was under the perception that the EZ was a timing only box? Or am I not correctly understanding how it works?

yes but I’ve read that you can change the gear one tooth and have an affect on timing
 
If you moved the gear a tooth, it probably wouldn't run. The gear has to be aligned properly and the woodruff key with the correct offset must be used. The only way to adjust timing is with a programmer.

The number for the correct key is stamped on the pump.

ok I sent the pump back and they checked it out said it was good came with a new key . I just don’t know how it could’ve got off timing ? In the words of Tony beats it ran the day they shut it off
