First I love my dodge, but it seems like nothing but problems. Christmas day it shut off, transmission already slippin(of course the dealer says its fine)second transmission at 11000 miles. in need of third at 30000. It's so bad that any more than quarter throttle when towing and I go slower (slippin bad) Dealer calls and says injection pump went. Could be my fault!! Only costs about $5000. 00 I won't stand for that. So I drove a flower poke today. It was cheap and powerless. I dont mean to gripe but I dont want to spend alot of money when warranty runs out. I already spent alot for the truck so I wouldn't have to later. Best truck on the market and still very dissatisfied. Maybe I should just buy a old truck. Sorry for the long post I just needed to vent.

<font color=blue>$5000 for an injection pump?? I think not. If they do require you to pay for it I would buy the pump elsewhere and bring it to them. Or is this for a new transmission and an injection pump?

And how is it your fault ?? What are they basing that on?<font size=-2>

with the banks setup and no transmission up grades I would guess he over powered the stock transmission. There has always been a dark cloud over the 98. 5 - 99 lift pumps.
just my unsolicited, no charge, no fee and free opinion

Merlin,
If your running any kind of power upgrade's with more than 60hp over stock with the Auto, You need to Upgrade the Auto transmission too!.

As for the Injection Pump, I agree with KatDiesel, Jnutter and Evan Beck,The Bosch VP44 Injection Does not cost $5000. 00 unless its the Gold Plated Model.
There is a Bosch Shop here in Bakersfield Ca that has them at $1,100 With Exchange. Every Rebuilt VP44 is rebuilt at Bosch, Not at small shops like with alt/starters and such.

I have 70k on my 1998. 5 215hp Cummins/Auto, Stock it dyno'd out at 178hp. When I installed the 275hp injectors I had it dyno'd again at 235hp,Then auto was fine and Holding well when towing with just the 275hp Injectors.

But! When I added the BD Plug-N-Power to the 275's, The auto Torque Convertor would slip while towing or Not in OD.

So I the added the BD Presure Lock,The holding Power was Marginal at best with this device. So then I contacted Bill Kondolay at Diesel Transmission Technology, And Bought His 80psi Valve Body, And that Did the trick!. The Auto and Torque Convertor Now Hold the Power. The transmission/TC Will not Slip now.
I had the Truck on the Dyno a Couple of months ago with the New Valve Body,275's and Plug-N-Power and it dyno'd out at 270-282hp. Traction was a Major Problem on the Rollers. I Had to "airdown" the rear tires to 25lbs with 500lbs of sand in the bed to keep the rear tire from sliping on the rollers.

BTW, Like many other Rammers out there,I had to replace my Lift Pump a while Back. It had gone south too cuasing a Lope-ing idle after a long hard pull with a 7klbs Trailer up a 12% grade at 6,000ft Alt.
I Hope this Helps.
Get ahold of Bill Kondolay at DTT, He will fix you up!
Doug.

i remember a thread on this before , if you go to dodge to buy an injection pump the cost is $4900 and cummins isn't alot cheaper , go to a bosch shop if you need one .

i didn't notice the banks in your sig , theres your trans problem , not surprised it went . i wouldn't bother going back to doge , have it done at an outside shop and order a VB and TC from DTT for install during the rebuild , but i don't think you need a full rebuild , just the VB and TC should do you fine . also check your lift pump , i had mine changed once , on a 2000 and i think its on its way out already , 15k miles later . what a piece of crap , i'll be putting and aftermarket pump and lines in before the spring .

Mopar,
I think you're mistsaken. I had to put an injector pump in my truck last year and it was WAY cheaper at cummins than my local dodge dealer. I brought it to cummins and they did an excellent job for Hundreds (8 if I remember right) of dollars less. Another FYI... I think from the dealer it's $2400. Just a little info in case you wanted to know.

I'm probably gonna curse my luck but I have had no pump problems, I do change my fuel filter every 6 to 7,000 miles. I think the Bosch pumps on the 24 valves need to be protected. Aren't these pumps covered under the 5year/50,000 mile emmission warrentys?

They replaced my transfer fuel pump on my 99 at 67,000 miles under the 100k engine warranty. I would surely think the injection pump falls in the same warranty!!! Dealer did the work.
