My 92 was turned up quite a bit when I bought it, I turned it down a little( 2 full rounds before there was a thread showing behind the sleeve, all I have seen factory had at least 2 showing) It helped alot on smoke and temperature when pulling hard, but now would like to replace the pump to know it is right. I bought a wrecked 90 non intercooled truck and was wondering if this pump will work to send off and get built to put on my truck so It will not be down. I would appreciate any help, Thanks Trey

I would say that if you're not seeing problems that indicate the pump is dying, then don't worry about it. My pump started depositing crap in the shutoff solenoid when it began to eat itself. I would shut the key off and the engine would just keep happily idling away, requiring me to pop the hood and hit the shutoff lever on the pump.

However, if it's something that you really want to do then I would call Piers and see if you could send him the pump from the '90 truck and have him work it over. It sounds as if you're more interested in longevity and efficiency over raw performance, and I'm sure Piers can optimize the pump for those goals

If you want to go the cheaper route, you could install a set of larger injectors and set the pump timing to 1. 4mm. From what I've read here the larger injectors reduce stress on the pump.
