My friend has two 01 CTD one is a H. O. 6spd and the other is a S. O. 5spd. We just put a new injection pump on the H. O. But the pump just went out on the S. O. We were wondering if we could put the H. O. pump on the S. O. Would it fit and is there a difference, is it worth it?? If it does were going to put a hoped up pump on the H. O. its 2wd! S. O. is 4x4

I believe your performance will suffer putting an H. O. pump on an S. O. engine. The S. O. pump actually delivers more fuel than the H. O. pump.

You will be OK with running that pump, there are some dealer ships that will also put a SO pump on a HO engine then do a reflash on the computer for the hp increase... ... jeremy

o i did not know that. Do you know what the difference is in the two

From what I understand the HO has longer stroke and smaller bore. While the SO has larger bore and shorter stroke. The HO was designed to deliver fuel at a higher pressure than the SO, but is capable of delivering less volume.

The electronics are also different, with the HO providing more timing than the SO.
