My 01 truck will not start. The motor stuttered for a moment before I shut it off. Five minutes later it would not restart. After cranking on it for a while it started and ran rough for about 20 seconds with the throttle clear to the floor. I haven't been able to get a puff of smoke out of it since. The only code that has come up is 1693. The lift pump and fuel filter have 5000 miles on them and the truck itself has only 105K. What do I do besides just going out and buying a pump?

1693 is a companion code, and simply means there are other code(s). If no one near you has a scanner you can goto autozone and some others to get it scanned or "borrow" one to check it. best thing is to show your sig whenever on 911 forum. Best of luck! let us know what you do/don't find.

Did you recently replace a fuel filter? You may have air in the system, I would crack an injector line and let pump run to see if fuel comes out.

It would help to have all the codes. It could be air in the system caused by either a plugged filter, suction side air leak or a stuck injector nozzle. But with out the codes, you don't know, it may be a bad VP44 or even a cam/crank position sensor.

The P0230

Transfer pump Circuit Out Of Range

OBD II code scanner came up with no codes currantly but P0230 inthe memory. I assume this one meant "Hey Idiot you need a new transfer pump"

I took the #1 injector line off and cranked the motor. I got a minor amount of fuel at first but then no more. I have plenty of fuel going to the injector pump.

"p230 transfer pump circuit out of range" load on pump too high, plugged filter or line. if you crack all the lines and get continuous fuel flow(be carefull the spray is at very high pressure) it should start. but... if the air got in from somewhere and is still getting in then it may never start untill that is fixed. check entire system for leaks(wet spots of fuel) from tank to injectors. the injectors wont spray without enough pressure and any air in the fuel will stop them. Good Luck!
