Injector 1 misfire!

#1 injector is misfiring, popping real bad, sound terrible, I don't think it's stuck open because no smoke. Will it make popping noise if its a dead injector? Has anyone else had this issue. I guess it's on me although I really doubt the smarty had anything to do with it. Ive seen injectors go bad for no reason before. Any ideas?

The shop here where I have my shop, "WILD DIESEL PERFORMANCE", has never seen a 6. 7 L CUMMINS Injector go bad... ... ... ... ..... plenty of 5. 9 L ones.

Yea I know Harvey, I told them. I'm not trying to hide it. I do not think anything I've done caused an injector to fail. They are looking at it to see what they can do. They think if it's just as simple as a bad inj that it will all be fine.

You may have gained a modest advantage by going in and confessing up front. Dealerships are accustomed to dealing with failed engines or transmissions towed in by owners who lie to them and claim their truck has never been altered. The electronics in the newer Cummins engines trap evidence. If the dealership can handle warranty replacement you may be lucky but if a STAR or a visiting Ram service representative has to visit and approve you may be out of luck.

I have read comments by Joe Donnelly who I believe has stated that some of the aftermarket magic boxes increase pressure and will cause early failure of injectors. I don't know if your box does or if you ran it on higher settings but that is usally the case.

Smarty claims no increase in rail presure and I checked it with the edge insight. Rail pressure was no different with or without the smarty.

The smarty does increase the rail pressure. It will not show until your driving and put the coals to it. I had a cracked injector and while trying to troubleshot what my problem was, before I found the cracked injector. I had given my friends smarty a try to rule out a programing issue. The smarty rased the rail pressure opening up the crack... . almost all of the programers will rase the rail pressure as lon as things are in good shape it's not an issue. Let there be a flaw and it will show it ugly head as it did in my case. I'm willing to bet that you've got an injector that is sticking it's internals binding for some reason dirty fuel?

I understood that smarty claims no increase in rail press. Also I did not see any higher rp with the smarty jr. As far as dirty fuel, I doubt it, I have a GDP fuel filter kit that filters to 2 microns right before the CP3 pump. We shall see. Ive had injectors in newer big trucks go bad for no apparent reason before so its possible.

Problem solved! The rocker arm for#2 lost the tip that pushes the valves on the exhaust rocker arm. Never seen that one before. It's fixed now and all is well!!

That's cool, well not cool but alot better than a bad injector.
